Compadre Mod

Have read on here as well as done a few other searches . Coil changing which is what I am about to have done on my compadre . It has the 5.75 on it now but I have ordered all the connectors need to mod for interchangable coils now my question is which I have yet to see be addressed on any of the Compadre Mods yet or I have overlooked it maybe is since there is no threshold tone on it will the ground balance pot need to be adjusted , and yes I know this will void the warrenty which I dont have anyway ! If so which direction is Neg and positive? I have already maxed the sens to where I like it.

I would try it first without touching the ground balance you might not need to adjust it. I believe that turning the pot. ccw adjusts the ground balance positive. Check out Monte's Power Balancing posts. Happy Holiday Barry! Steve.

Clockwise should be positive adjust.
It will be very touchy.
I don't recall but, think if you turn down the disc and the sensitivity up until you get some sound, chatter, you can use that as a reference point when GB'ing, somewhat like a threshold.

Thanks guys and Steve my grandson who is a electronics bug told me he would do the modification on it he is goiing to install the connectors to use different coils he is going to install a connector on the 5.75 coil as well will posta pic of it when I get it back the connectors will ne here friday

Voiding warranty is one thing but Tesoro will not work on units that have been modified at least that's what one of the owners told me flat out..

Yes you are correct but since it is not under warranty anyway I have nothing to loose but maybe a lot to gain a nice light gold magneet with a chance to use different coils at different locations and get a little more depth than the 5.75 will give me in the woods I hunt

Yes. Set your disc at minimum and pump the coil while turning the gb pot clockwise when it starts beeping back it off a little until it stops. You will than be balanced.

A lot of info thrown out there on ground balancing and sensitivity settings. Half of it's right. Take your pick.

Yes Sir . The one thing I am going to do is once I get it back is try it before any adjustments are made to see just how it reacts . There are a lot of guys on here that are well versed in their info and I have already contacted a fellow and explained what I was doing and he told me he did the same to his compadre and did not have to change anything in the pots his main go to coil for him is the Large 10.5 white older coil as he hunts a lot of fields and it works quite well for him . He has dug coins and relics at well over 10 inches with it also found one 5 dollar gold coin about 3 yrs ago . So if I am Lucky It will do what I want if Not then I guess it will be my Loss and have to live with It ! Thanks for the Input! Tabman I do respect your Opinion !

You know I'm not too tempted yet to modify my Compadre. One week with me today as a matter of fact  Likely I'll leave it Classic style, unmarred by outside influences beyond factory settings. However, being a total gear head in my other line of work it will be accessorized once I get the true feel of the machine and scope out additional gear placement.

Compadre is a good machine to practice mods on , as its not a very high buck machine,
