Compadre Hits Big Gold!

Smudge

New member
Wow. What a day!

My metal detecting club was having a Poker Hunt this morning at a county park. I had never detected there before, so I got there a bit early to do a little personal hunting outside the seeded area.

While most of my was spent on the Poker Hunt, I found .47 in clad on my own.

But the really exciting part came only ten minutes into my personal hunt. I get a really solid, repeatable signal from my trusty Compadre. I dig through the wood chips. My Garrett Propointer tells me the signal is still down there. I dig past the mulch. Still down there. Two scoops of dirt later, out pops this dirt encrusted clump of shiny metal.

No way its gold, I think. Its too big. Well, clean this monster up and it turns out not only to be 10k gold, but its got there three beautiful opals in it as well! The ring itself is large, size 8 or 10 at least. I can see where the ring had been widened at some point. I haven't been able to weigh it yet, but its looking pretty promising!

I can't believe my incredible luck! Just had to share. BTW, the weather here in Florida is improving fast. The sun is getting really strong again, but the weather is great!

The Compadre did good for you ! Keep hitting those wood chip playgrounds and tot lots...seems lots of gold ends up in them.

Funny thing is, this wasn't even in the tot lot area.

It was near some picnic tables and, of course, under some trees.

nice ring, those opals sure are pretty.

Hey Smuge. We better quit posting these gold finds-everybody's gonna get a Compadre. Great ring!

Nice find - and it goes to show that one doesn't have to use a detector with every bell and whistle and a high price to be successful.
