Compadre "goldilocks" detector?

Howdy Everyone!
So today I hit a park that I've never been to with the Compadre. I was swinging for about 1.5 hrs. I dug $2.07 in clad. The last park I was at, I brought the Vaquero with the 5.75 widescan. That was not a productive day as I had a broken zipper and was unable to continue! Lol! One thing I noticed though, I was digging deep targets with the V, but It was a real pain to dig 9" for a zinc penny. It got a little frustrating. The compadre is "just right" when you want a simple detector to hit the parks, schools, etc. It seems that most of the targets I find with the Compadre are in the 4-6" range. I think I actually like the Compadre just as much as the Vaq when hunting for newer coins/jewelry in parks. It's quicker digging on the shallow targets, so if its not a very old park you aren't losing much due to the slight lack of depth. The pinpointing is also just amazing on the Compadre. Rarely used my pinpinter probe today

Yep they all look like new drops, Its just to hard and dry for digging , it's good to have different MDer to help in your search , hank

I'm thinking of adding a Compadre because it's good on small gold. i.e. high KHZ.
But I was wondering if it gives a high tone or medium one on a target ???
Appreciate a response. Thanks.

It goes A! U! Dig me! Sorry. A little Tesoro humor.

Yep, the Compadre is just perfect when hard ground becomes too big of a challenge to dig. Yesterday I took my Bandido II uMax out and ran it at near minimum sensitivity and it was still sounding off on some targets that were a little deeper than I wanted to dig. Our clay ground is soft as butter when wet, but when it's dry it's as hard as concrete. Try turning your sensitivity way down on the Vaquero to reduce the depth. Also a lower sensitivity setting seems to make it easier to tell the difference between the good stuff and trash like can slaw.

Thats a good idea tabman. Had sensitivity about 6-7, probably could have run it alot lower. I will experiment with that next time. Thanks

If you aren't concerned about tiny jewelry and mainly ring and coin hunting, You can back the threshold down in negative territory as well as reducing sensitivity.
Or keep sensitivity high and go negative with the threshold. Going negative reduces depth to a tolorable range.
Try it sometime, you can reduce depth to a just a couple inches if you want.

The simple secret of the Compadre is its lack of controls.

The lower you keep your discrimination, the more you dig.

The more you dig, the more you find.

I'm beginning to see that a lot of detectorists rely on screens and notching too much, because they realize (or they believe) their detectors can't hit on a lot of tiny targets like the Compadre.

So they end up digging less and find less.

BTW, This was in reference to AtomicScott's comment about the Vaq.
