Bobby S.....
You might ask Goes4ever on the E-Trac forum, he has an 8" Compadre and does well with it. He has posted on this forum a couple of times, of course he uses it for hunting in the iron in his plowed fields. As far as competition hunts, I went to one of the biggest ones held in Tulsa Oklahoma. This was years back and about all I can remember was that the targets were silver dimes just hidden under the grass. So about all you did was hunt fast and grab the targets, the Compadre with the 8" coil will do good there. I found one painted copper penny token good for an "old timer" pocket knife and a whole hand full of silver dimes. I was using an old Tesoro Toltec ll, heavy sucker for a competition detector. Just make sure to not set the Disc. too high for the targets used at the hunt....
As far as beach work, it depends on the mineral content on whether the Compadre would fare as it has no ground balance. I was hunting on a Pacific coast beach in Oregon one time a couple of years ago while on vacation. The beach at that time had some streaks of black sand and gave my Tesoro Pantera a hard time. The Pantera has a 10 turn ground balance and was very touchy at this beach. I first had to find a spot without metal and then do the GB, I would move the GB knob very little and it would go positive, then just barely move it the other way and it would go null or negative. I finally figured it out and found some coins. Back home in Kansas soil, the Pantera does really well and is quite deep with the 8" coil, so mineralization has to figured in.
