Compadre - Fine Gold Magnet?

I read the following on another forum. Is any part of it true?

The Compadre runs @ 12kHz as do some of the other Tesoro models but the Compadre hits better on lower conductors than the other 12kHz models. This is because of the Compadre's ED-180 circuitry and the fact that its circuitry is without the low-noise, high gain features that would normally alter the signal.

Berryman,

The Compadre, dollar for dollar, is probably the best investment in a metal detector anyone can make. Its a bold statement but I will stand behind it having owned and tested many others.

Yes, the Compadre does show an incredible degree of sensitivity to finer gold than many other machines in its price range and quite a few that cost much more. The Compadre is, in my opinion, one of the last "analog" style detectors still being made and its benefits are clear.

The question of just how fine a gold chain it will hit, laid out and not crumpled in a ball, can be debated, but I think you will be impressed with the result.

Now on really fine gold, you practically have to run the Compadre in its "all metal" mode below iron.

What is amazing is how you can take that same chains the Compadre will hit in all metal, and compare it to other machines also in "all metal." Many machines will not pick up that same chain, even if you rub it directly against the coil.

So yes, there the statement above is true statement.

I don't own a Compadre but do own a Silver uMax (one step up from the Compadre). Having no experience the Compadre I can tell you this- try to find someone that has something bad to say about, I haven't. I have read all over the internet on the Compadre and haven't heard anyone complain yet.

Well, all you have to do is look up Monte's posts. He took a VAQUERO, and several other very fine detectors and put a penny ONE INCH under some of his highly mineralized pea gravel and ONLY THE COMPADRE gave a good signal! Tabdog had a video of the Compadre picking up a very FINE gold chain in light discrimination and I also duplicated this scenario and NONE of my other detectors gave a beep-even in all metal. I was able to RUB the chain rolled up in a ball on my Silver umax w/5.75" coil and got a scratch in the speaker. I've had others post back that this was all smoke and mirrors, but I assure you it's true. And just for the record, don't be surprised to go over an area and find nickels and dimes others have missed-I don't know why, but it hits HARD on these two coins.
Oops. Got carried away. I believe one of the Bandidos and another older Tesoro did hit on the coin. Don't want to imply the Compadre's the only Tesoro that will do that.

Small gold, small chains, chains of any kind, really.
The most sensitive detector I use, I have others, and it amazes me almost every time I pull it out.
I am a jewelry hunter so I bought one because I heard they were the best at that.
It has found me more than 7X's it's cost in clad and jewelry at melt prices.
Also some of the oldest coins I ever dug, also.
I will never give it it up, and it is also a blast to use.

Hey-just remembered your post about the Compadre double beep on coins close to poles, etc.=just to give credit where credit's due. Found a quarter up next to a pole today. Just that alone adds quite a bit to it's value in these sites.

Like others in this thread, I think the Compadre is a wonder for the niche it fits. No matter what other detectors one has, a Compadre in the lineup is a near must IMHO.

So what kinds of gold items are being found with the Compadre?
Rings, gold chains, tiny earrings, and some have shown pics of the sizes of gold nuggets their Compadre picks up. You must remember the PRICE you have to pay to find some of these items: teeny foil, flecks of metal shaved off an object, etc. The thing I love about it is that you can reject a paper clip or hairpin and still find a fine gold chain-I find most of my schools have an abundance of these two trash items. I used to hunt with a Garrett BFO because it would null ever so slightly on these two items and still find gold chains. I never thought a TR type of metal detector would ever achieve that.

Just a few of the many different types of targets I have found with mine.
Also, this thing is a beast on coins, too.

The smallest gold item I found was that tiny little flat thing on the chain that said 14K.. Also a very fine broken chain that was 14K. Bigger gold items will knock your ears off..The COMPADRE is so fun and easy to use. I sold all my high dollar detectors. (Mine labs & whites) . I only use TESORO detectors now.. Life time warranty,, Very light weight,,Great battery life. Customer service like no other. Happy Hunting.... KEN

Delivery boy's 8 gold rings in a month with his Compadre would seem to answer the gold-magnet question in the affirmative.

Berryman is right. Check Deliveryboy's post.

Hey guys, I will confirm it is a magnet for gold/silver jewelry, I have to give 6 of the rings credit to my Lobo ST, but have no doubt the compadre would have found them as well had I been using it those day. I found 2 golds this past week both with the Compadre in back to back hunts I also found 2 last year with it. Unfortunately I have 3 machines to rotate so I can't use it all the time, but will never let it leave my hands :)
