Compadre finds silver

DiggerDug

New member
Found a little ball field today. Hunted a few hours before the rain. Found $1.72 in clad, a key and a silver ring. Gotta love the Compadre.

Great going. It's always nice to find silver.

Hey digger nice find!! Do you think the stone is real??

Mike

I wish but a silver ring is still silver no matter what the stone. :detecting:

I feel ya bud, I found a sweet stamped.925 earring with a giant stone. I have a jeweler friend and they told me I will never see a real diamond in a silver setting. I guess they say it's too soft. But I was happy with the gianit silver earring. As you should be keep finding them, it's so exciting to find a real ring like that. I have found a bunch of fake ones and it's a heart breaker.

Mike.

Good luck my friiend.

Mike ......A very interesting post !

If you don't mind, I have the following question.

Did your jeweler friend say what kind of stone it was, i.e. glass, a diamond look-a-like such as Cubic Zirconia (CZ) Zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), Moissanite, etc. ?

I did some research on the web and found out that if a gold ring is used for a diamond setting for instance, the maximum purity percentage (and the most expensive) and minimum hardness gold alloy would be 18K , which is 75% pure gold alloyed with 25% base metal to obtain hardness for wear. Pure gold is 24K/24K and is too soft for gold alloyed rings, but when gold is alloyed with base metal, the higher the percentage of base metal the harder the alloy. Some examples of alloys of less purity, but harder, would be 14K = 58.50% pure gold,12K = 50.00% pure gold and 10K = 41.60% pure gold. Now, we are talking gold alloy here, not gold plated. Alloyed means a substance consisting of two or more substances mixed together (homogenized).

I did not have them look at it, but they thought it would be CZ .

Also ii did the breath test, breath on it. Then look at it quick if it fog is gone instantly you may have a diamond. If it fogs, glass or CZ. Also if you put it on a newspaper fine print just the stone, you should not be able to see the print. I guess diamonds are to brilliant. And they dissipate heat better than anything else.
