compadre/eldorado umax

Well-known member
For those who have both....would you say the disc are about the same...meaning from min to max setting....the same iron rejection and so on cuts out at about the same point on the dial?

They both have the ED-180 disc. circuit, but that is where the similarity ends. The Eldorado has many more features including Sensitivity, Threshold & Ground Balance and the Compadre is bare bones minimal on/off Disc. knob. The Compadre has the better ED-180 Disc. circuit in my opinion AND had Jack G. just added onto the excellent Compadre Disc. circuit all the features of the Eldorado they would have had a world class un-masker in the iron.

Hombre thank you for your response but Im a little confused by it sorry.
I know the extra features the Eldorado has. What I am trying to find out is since they apparently both have the 180 disc? then do they similiarily discriminate according to their dial setting. Do you think that although they are both 180 disc, the compadres disc is still different than that of an Eldorado?

I have both, and both have the same 5.75 concentric coil on 'em. However, I don't yet have enough time on either to give an honest opinion about how they compare as far as disc accuracy. Sadly (or luckily), I'm one of those nuts who gets a new toy before fully evaluating the last one. I just bought a Cibola to try out, though it wasn't needed. ^_^

I may get a chance to compare the two in question, Compadre and Eldorado, over the next couple weeks... And then my Compadre is going cross-country with my oldest daughter. My previous Compadre (an 8") went to my son... Keeping my Dos Eldorados for now, though.

According to Monte, whom I consider an authority on Tesoros, you have the best Eldorado (umax) and it was #1 on his list. I feel you have a super Compadre on your hands!

Part of me tends to think that a Tesoro ED-180 discriminate circuit is just that no matter which model incorporates it? The difference probably comes in when you start tying in all the other components of the detector and how they harmonize with each other? I think small variances in disc settings are normal as long as the overall acceptance/rejection discriminate range is a true ED-180?

That is what I was thinking...just want to verify. Setting up the compadre for small iron dic and still hitting small gold is ideal....just want some more adjustability like GB and sens without giving up that.

Just saying the Compadre has cleaner iron rejection, the Eldo is a little more noisier, thus the Compadre will unmask better in the iron. JMHO

Sounds good to me. Even went out with mine. I HATE it when those gold looking targets are attracted to a magnet!!!
BTW, it was near an iron chain climbing ladder on a slide/climb playground piece of equipment.

Thank you Hombre that helps....

Thanks to everyone. Tesoro forum over the years has always been superb at helping a fellow tesoro user out. Bunch a great people on this forum.

yeah until you get to know us better

I will add I like the little one knob wonder dollar for dollar the best detector ever made.
