Given the many posts heralding the lovable lil Compadre with all of its simplicity and performance..... I now have termed a new name to describe this cult like group of detectorists. I call them the Minimalist Detectorist "E Pluribus Unum" Society. Out of many detectors owned over many years... some have settled down to just "one" lil Compadre for the most part. The motto of this club is "Less Is More."
It cracks me up to think of the lowly Compadre digging up chains, rings, coins ect ect... while people everyday are spending $1500 to $2000 per unit with all the bells and whistles and needing a DVD and hands on instruction from someone to even understand their machines. The learning curve on some is significant and frustrating. I have to respect their decision and hope they find lots of goodies.... but it must surely take some of the fun out of a great sport.
While checking Craig's List frequently for used Compadre's...and Tesoro's in general (and finding only one so far) I see many almost new high end models for sale. Gathering dust. Oh well.... good for the economy I think.
