Compadre crosstalk/interference

deliveryboy

New member
Recently I picked up a second Compadre. I took them both out together last weekend on a hunt with my uncle to hunt an old house he manages. As we turned them both on wthin 10-15 ft of each other they had extreme interference. I had another Compadre last year that I don't recall having this issue.

The hunt became frustrating whenever we got near each other in the small yard to the point I gave up on using mine and just dug targets for him for awhile.

Is this common? Is there any known solutions? I thought there would be some type of fail safe method implemented from the factory to prevent crosstalk.

I love my Tesoros but it would be a shame if I can only use one Compadre on such hunts :(

This is a problem with many detectors and that 15' space seems to be the range.
I know 2 F2's close together will sometimes do this, probably others, also.

Why the other one did not cause this cross talk I don't know, but I don't think there is anything you can do about it except keep them away from each other.

Yep, it's happened to me several times and I know not to use two Tesoros with the same operating frequencies in the same area. You might try the Lobo (17 Khz) with the Compadre (12Khz) next time and see what happens.

The last time this happend, I was teaching a friend how to metal detect with my Compadre and another friend was with me that had a Toltec ll, both operate at 12Khz. Well they could not be in the same yard. That was not a problem because my friend using the Compadre had acces to several abandoned old house sites that he had lined up and he just went down the street with the Compadre.

Thanks for the replies. What a bummer you would think there would be a way to resolve it...shield, frequency shift or something. Oh well :(

Hi deliveryboy, Crosstalk ain't no real big deal, though it is pretty common with most all detectors of whatever make, and one of the reasons for some machines having a frequency switch. Crosstalk is one of the "smaller" problems us diggers have that does have a simple remedy. We can simply either keep our distance from our digging buddies, and just back away for a break now and then while sharing the space with your buddy. Lol,, everyone of my digging buddies loves to step into some "shared ground" in hopes of smoking someone's butt by finding something another buddy missed.. That is just another of the enjoyments of detecting that we can all share with one another, and " jaw " about when remembering our hunts together. I never had it happen to me, but years ago,one of our group would complain about hearing high in the sky Jetliners in his headphones as they were flying over. I can see where that could have become a big real deal problem had we all been having that problem, but some technology/rules/regs. must have cured that problem for us. He has passed on now but a couple of us are still around who remember the laughs we all had while picking at him about his "hearing things" problem..HH, Charlie
