compadre coil size

First post so let Me say Hi to all of You experienced detectors out there
.
Been lurking for about a month and have picked up a ton of knowledge and still don't know anything.

About a month ago I bought a $99 machine brand new in the box for $50. I guess that its working alright
but don't have much faith in it. Going to let the "company" use it when They visit.

I traded a $300 gun for a used waterproof PI detector and it seems to do alright also, came with a sand scoop that weighs just about as
much as a back-hoe.

We live about 20 min. from the ocean here in N.C. so all of our hunting will be in in the saltwater and on the wet and dry sand.

So, I can see in My not so distant future a Sand Shark with My name on it, HOWEVER, before that happens My Wife will not be outgunned..
Going to buy a Compadre for Her to use on the dry sand but don't know which coil to get, There won't be any fence posts or objects to work around
but don't won't to lose any depth either.

So, if You would, take pity on a newbie and advise on which coil size would do the best job for Our needs.

Thanks,
Don

I would go with the 8 inch coil since it will be her main detector based on your needs that you described...hope this helps

Yep 8 inch coil for sure if no post or other metal objects to contend with as for as the compadre never owned one until just today bought one with the 5.75 coil to try out Good Luck on yours and welcome as well

Thanks for the welcome,
and 8" coil it is.
We went to the beach this afternoon for about three hours,
I found three big sections of rusted iron, a sinker, two beer bottle caps, and a shiny new looking penny.
She found a nail, two quarters, a nickel, and three pennys.
Maybe She don't need a new Compadre, just might have to leave Her at home if She can't behave.
Yea, right

I agree with the 8" coil advice. The 5.75 is great for tot lots, trashy areas and the like, but for more general detecting you're making the right choice IMHO. I have an older one with the 7" coil which works pretty well as an all-around coil, also. The Compadre is one of the best "bangs for the buck" in my thinking.
