compadre coil size

For general hunting the 8" is quite good, however, in trashier areas the 5" will separate the goodies from the trash better. Depth and ground coverage favor the 8", but the 5" is great in tot lots etc. and deep enough for most finds. Final decision rests on what types of areas you'll be hunting most. If you already have a detector with a larger coil for coverage and depth, I'd choose the 5". If not, I'd probably choose the 8". I happen to have an older one with the 7" coil which is a nice compromise between the two. Just my opinion, others may differ.

Like BarberBill says, it depends on the location. I'm a big users of the 8 inch doughnut coil. I find it that it works great for me in most locations that I hunt.

It has good separation and is plenty deep. Also, it's big enough to not make you feel like your coil is too small to cover those large open areas.

I am sure that the Compadre would be just fine with the 8" coil but to me the Comapdre with the 5.75" coil goes together just like peanut butter and jelly, pizza and beer, turkey and dressing, spaghetti and meatballs, cheese and crackers, you get the idea. Oh nutz now I made myself hungry, have to go eat be right back.
