Compadre coil modifacation question.

If I modify a compadre to accept different coils which type of coils work on it uMax or HOT? From all that I have read the compadre has 4 wires going to the coil like the HOT? any help?

Its my understanding that some Tesoro's like the Compadre needs the unit tune to the coil and yes you can replace the coils but you may get less than satisfactory results if the unit isn't sent back to Tesoro to get the detector tuned to the new coil.

Mark is pretty much right. To get optimal performance, the detector often needs to be tuned to the detector. However, I've switched a lot of coils on other preset models and have had good results so I'd recommend trying it before sending off. Also, not sure what Tesoro's reaction, warranty wise, would be to this change. Often, the preset ground balance would be the major mismatch and that's an easy tweak of a pot on the board, but I can't tell you which one. One other thought - the Compadre is so reasonably priced, why not buy one with either the 5.75 or the 8" coil to compliment what you already have or add a Silver to the arsenal which is already wired to change coils? Just a thought.
