compadre Broken??

I have a compadre that I bought used and I took it out for a "Test drive" today. We still have snow.:rage: My question is if I lift it off the ground and rock it back and forth it will beep at me even at the highest point on the dial in middair is this normal or not. Should I send it in to be looked at??
ps: no iron or metal around or wires.

Without knowing how hard you rock it back and forth that''s a good question. Before you get too nervous about it, make sure the coil wire is fairly well secured along its full length and so that it can't flap when you rock it. If that doesn't help and it still does it with fairly easy rocks, I'd call Tesoro.

Since you bought it used you could open it and adjust the pot for sensitivity down and see if that helps. Just be carefull the pot will break if you crank on it to hard. It should be the pot labeled vr4. Also like others have said , check cable, make sure it's secured well by coil, check under coil cover , clean sand out if using a coil cover. If all else fails you can send it in.

Is "back and forth" sweeping the coil left and right or up and down?

If it is up and down, does it only beep in one direction; meaning it beeps only as it is going down or it beeps only as it is going up? If it is up and down and only beeps in one direction, then the ground balance is off for where you are hunting. Let us know if that is what it is doing.

Well I think I found out what it was. The nut on the casing is loose and will not tighten up. The rocking I was doing was with my wrist rolling it around.Upside down and back right side up lightly. Probably a easy fix but I think that I will send it in to be certain that is the problem. I got it cheap enough so I can pay some for the fixing if need be. Thanks everyone for the help.

I doubt they will charge you anything other than the one way shipping. The Compadre is a fun little detector with more capability than one might think.
