compadre board ver 3 sensivity and ground balance mod

Member
I want to do it but need help
vr4 pot is for sens 10k pot
vr3 for GB 100 k pot
vr2 for Disk

the mod says to add a resistor but I cant find that range anywhere and also the type of material of resistors

I have my 10 turn pots ready but need info on the resistor

"from the owner of the pic"

there can be added panel mounted sensitivity knob very easily, because there are free pads intended for the potentiometer. just remove the VR4 trimmer and connect potentiometer with one resistor.

board pics from the guy who made this work "machineman"

as always for the most part clear cut instructions, parts list, close up step by step clean photos etc.. about moding detectors are as clear as mud , my page on the current compadre mod for sens pot add is in the mod section and is right the coil change out mod is also right if you have the 2 connectors its easy to follow instructions but where and how to add a resistor for a layman like myself there is no solid instructions on the old 7" comp, so in all my wisdom decided it doesn't need any of those mods as its a proven gold finder just the way it is..

that's the best advice I can give if in doubt don't...

I dont want it to run hotter, i need it to run good on emi infested sites

must be some mean emi Tesoro's are the best at handling emi I have found even went and stuck the coil up to a transformer on a light pole and it didn't make a squeak , sorry I cant help you as I don't know how to add the resistor on the 7" comp for a sens pot or if it even needs one...

maybe someone will come along to help you out.

Your better off selling the Compadre if it is the older version with the 7" coil.
People want them.
Then find a Tesoro with the features you want that actually benefit the detectors performance.
Some mods are fine to do, in the end don't improve performance much, just make the detector look cool and sometimes unstable...making you wish you never made the mods.
I would just run that older Compadre stock.

The only Tesoros I would mod for some improvement are because you can access the threshold based all metal mode
Silver Sabre Umax,
Cibola, Bandido with the external GB mod.

If you don't have any electronics experience like the guys on Geotech Forums whose hobby is to tinker with detectors. Be very cautious around Tesoros Micro SMT electronic parts.
Tesoro wires are stiff and do break off the circuit boards. Sometimes just better off buying an older Tesoro with the larger component parts if you want to tinker. An older Silver Sabre
larger plastic box models are fun as are the Bandido's and a few others. Enough guys on Geotech have experience with them.
You can also just build your own Tesoro, several Geotech projects you can buy the circuit board and parts from which you can add all the external controls you want also use Tesoro search coils.

In any case, if you want to tinker, this is for everyone, go for it, its fun and can be enjoyable, except when the unit you were working on fails to function..been there done that. Part of the learning process. Really sucks when a perfectly functioning $400 detector being modified goes sour...ends up in the parts box.

Tesoros are one of the best in EMI sites. Some sites that effect Tesoro, not much you can do except turn the sensitivity and threshold down to make it stable or if the detector has a frequency switch.

Totally agree Sven.
I'm glad I modded my cibola. It worked.
Now would I mod another.... Probably not.
If you want to mod a compadre, buy a mojave.
If you want to mod a cibola, buy a vaquero.
Lol. No they are not the same, but they are stock and won't cost you the cost of restoring it to factory if you ever have to send it in.
Tesoro will work on modded detectors, however you must first pay to have it restored to stock factory condition, then the cost to fix what was wrong with it.

At the time I didn't have a vaquero and I got the cibola for a steal with the plan on modding it.
If I did it over again I would have left it stock, or maybe adjust the trim pot inside to my soil once, and just bought a vaquero.
It was a nerve racking process. I'm sure it would be better if I did it again, but even at the price I got my cibola for would have been too much if the mod failed.

In the end, if you want to tinker, go for it at your own risk. It can be fun.
I would not personally do it to that 7" compadre. Get one you can replace easier
