does the compadre and the silver umax sound the same over a target when detecting.they both have an audio frequency responce of 630hz.i have a compadre and i was thinking of getting the silver umax to replace my silver sabre, which appears to have died[nearly 30 yrs old]the compadre's tone/pitch to me sounds flat, blaat, blaat!not very inspiring to me and if the silver sounds the same,i won't go any further.their is no one in my area that i know of', that i could compare both with.bye for now ,blowfly,hh

side by side comparisons will yield differences in discrimination..... Ie; I can tell when the silver is sounding on Iron, but the compadre may not signal at all on that same piece of Iron.

other than Iron / discrimination I find they're the same in tone.

I disagree that its just a "blat", because I can tell the difference from target to target with nearly the accuracy of a TID

If you like the compadre I'd say you'd gain more depth and better coil selection with the Silver Umax....especially if discriminating.

If you're looking for more in the tone I think your options are the Golden Umax (multiple tones), and cibola or vaquero with high tone mod, or the Tejon with tone adjustment control

hi digitaltim, your hearing must be alot better than mine.having read many past posts on the compadre about how wonderful a performer it is,i keep giving it a run.each time thinking that i must be doing something wrong.i can't tell the difference from one target to the next.my earphones make no difference.i have killer bees and sun ray pro's.to me it is truelly a beep and dig machine.the tone/pitch is the thing that really bugs me.if on another brand detector that has audio responce of 450hz,i can hear the change in audio over different targets, whereas the compadre operating in 630hz should to my way of thinking be even easier to tell the difference.my silver sabre when it was operating, operated at 450hz sounded great.my vaquero has updated high sound,no problems.now i know their are people the can hear the subtle changes on them i can't! td tried to help many times.i think 24 yrs military service doesn't help.thanks for your input.blowfly,hh

I have to agree. I have the Silver

If you can tell a good target from bad I think you're hearing what I'm referring to... Those subtle clues in the tone

gidday mat in ma,they do make tone and pitch adjustable headphones.mostly for dj's at around 8oo-900 dollars.at those prices,i'll just suffer, with what i have.however i learnt to-day that at the time of purchase, given early notification, tesoro can,for a small charge on top of the original purchase, alter the tone up to nearly the same as the high tone vaquero, for the silver umax.unfortunatly not for the compadre though.bye for now, blowfly,hh

Perhaps a set of these might help you ...????.....Jim

hi jim,i've researched the koss things before, but they don't import them into australia.we can get the headphones and the earphones.but not them.blowfly.

hi kd8hf,the sabre is still kicking.there appears to be a loose connection where i plug the headphones in.that can be fixed easy.i,m really relieved.i have been using often, since buying it off ebay.it's a great detector.turn on and go find.blowfly,hh
