COMPADRE AIR TEST FACTORY SETTINGS

Well-known member
never messed with internal settings, this is the air test with 8" coil

Another super video! The audio on the Compadre sure sounds sweet. You just motivated me to go out in the yard to my test garden where I have just recently planted a dime at 5 inches deep dime. I was able to get a good audio response about 3 inches above the ground using my 5.75 inch Compadre. Both the GB and sensitivity have been adjusted for maximum depth in my soil without being chatty.

Tab you just motivated me to get a compadre with a small coil , thats a cracking good result you got with the smaller coil I hate to say this but I think the compadre is actually deeper than the outlaw in the sand i have no kidding but i still want an outlaw for the sports fields, I miss that threshold all metal its not set really high like the VAQ and its so nice at telling me whats down in the ground like a big deep can or something dime size at 3 " the outlaw has a place but so do the compadre.

I found my outlaw to better the depth of my compadre on most coin size items. I have the coil connection on my compadre so I will compare with the same coil when I get a chance.

Thanks for the video of the Compadre w/8". Personally, I liked the Compadre just fine with the 7" Concentric or even the 5¾" Concentric. Too bad they didn't make it with a connector.

Now, for comparing the Compadre with any other make or model, you have to be sure to use the same size and type search coil on both models, and more importantly match the settings used. That's very difficult to do because you don't have any external control or control setting reference on the Compadre for the Sensitivity or Ground Balance, and those two adjustments can make quite a difference in how models 'appear' to perform.

My Bandido II µMAX or an Outlaw or an Eldorado ought to be able to easily match or exceed the demonstrated performance of the Compadre if they have a similar 8" coil mounted, because the operator can control their primary settings. They can also be made to look inferior to the Compadre if the Sensitivity is reduced or especially if the Ground Balance is increased to a too positive setting. You can't make those quick changes on a Compadre so that makes it unfair.

It's only fair to say this particular Compadre, brand new out-of-the-box from the factory, with the factory settings, performed this way, and then do the video. Unless set-up side-by-side and tested side-by-side, I sure wouldn't suggest the Compadre is better or deeper than an Outlaw or other more versatile, adjustable model.

ToneTime can use the same coils, and if he can match/duplicate the Sensitivity, Discrimination and Ground Balance settings, then we could get a rough idea how they compare. It won't be easy unless the Compadre is GB'ed, by opening it up and 'Power Balancing' with a sample rock, and then match that Disc. mode GB with the same coil and the same rock on the manual GB'ed model (Outlaw, Bandido II µMAX, etc.).

If i opened it up i would probably turn it down to make it less sensitive to foils & small Iron and still get the gold rings,

Turn down the Sensitivity? Why? That would also reduce the responsiveness to gold jewelry, especially any thinner and/or smaller size gold. If a person doesn't want to hear/find iron or small thin foil (and similar objects that share those conductivity ranges), then that's what the variable Discrimination control is for.

Another nice video Gunnar. I'm getting almost identical results on my new 8" coil Compadre. Not bad for a $160.00 machine.

Do not turn down the sens. You need that for the fine gold items. You will loose the good stuff... KEN

I adjusted my sensitivity on the 5.75 coil compadre and I dug a 1700's button at 7" deep..... Now the area was clean so I dug a clicking semi OK but solid signal. It was in the woods with no mineralization. Now with that said I'm sure other models like the yellow machines prob would of picked up on it too ! However. The compare hands down is the beat band for the buck. I have also used it around old cellar holes and scored some nice digs too....yes I like it as a relic machine...just got to go slow

Ken , & monty, I know I have some strange Ideas, but i was thinking about the big gold rings, i find when i use to much disq masking becomes a problem so i figured turning down the gain would still hit a big gold ring or even a medium one at good depth but would not sound on smaller junk , kinda like when you are looking for just the meat and potaoes kind of things, but yes , if it was gold chains and earings the gain should be up a bit .

Dont turn it down. Figure out where you want to set the disc. For me just at the end of iron. Then learn what your targets sound like. I am better at figuring out good vs bad with my Compadre than any other detector I have used. If you change the disc then you have to learn a new set of sounds for targets. I dig a lot of trash in my gold quest, but I have been 100% accurate in guessing its trash in the last year or so. Good targets sound good bad targets sound bad. I love my compadre.
