Compadre // 7" coil vs the newer 5.75 coil .....

Jay Evans

I was wondering how the newer compadre detectors have been working as compared to the older compadres that used to come with the 7" coil ??

Just got mine with the smaller 5.75" coil and love it. Now it's not a depth demon but it does great. I found the sweet spot in the discrimination. I stuck a rusty nail in the ground straight up and down and set it to where it just goes out-it will still find a flat washer. Only finding coins 3-4", but I believe these coins are being missed by the "super" detectors because of target masking.-they had a lot of patina on them and had been there a while and there was places where people had been digging. Small foil gives smooth, quick signals and coins give a smooth longer signal. In another words, the SIZING feature is great and helpds in the decision making. It picks up the teeniest gold targets, so if you get a soft signal, don't start diggin' to "China", but check the first inch or two first. It is simply unbelievable for the price.:tesoro:

My first detector was the Compadre with the 7" coil and it worked very well. Haven't used the newer Compadres with the 5.75 to compare, but have used both the 7" and 5.75 on my SS

I used to own one of the older units with the 7".... it got decent depth and was great in trashy areas..... I bet the 5.75 would be a great little package too.
I had one with the Cable plug modification for coil changes and let a guy talk me out of it a couple years back....I kick myself for letting it go now.
