Compadre 5.75 or 8?

Well I'm selling my Cibola, Tigershark, and Sidewinder Micromax. Wanting another Compadre for when I travel out of town for work and was wondering which one to get. Had the 5.75", but gave it to a family member that needed a detector. Really missing my Compadre. Found more good stuff with it than anything else. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with the 8" compadre that they could share. Here's a nice gold ring I found with my Compadre. Thanks,

I have mostly tot lots, parks w/playground equipment, etc. So I would never be comfortable w/8" coil-even on my other detectors. Now whenever I go to another town and there's large parks, I pull out my other detectors that DO have a larger coil. Location is everything.

Thanks slingshot. Kinda leaning toward 5.75". I cranked the sensitivity up on my other one and it was a great detector. Just bought an AT Pro and don't need so many detectors. Not sure how to use the AT yet, but my detecting buddy uses one and is going to teach me. Lotta bells and whistles going off on the AT. All I've ever used is Tesoro. Probably gonna kick myself for selling my Tesoros. Maybe get the 5.75" coil for the Cibola. That would be a nice traveling detector!

Beauty ring!

I travel on business with all my gear and hunt when I can...its a lot of fun to go ransack an unfamiliar area...I run my AtPro dummied down with simple but effective settings...its very easy to learn and you should do well with it....a quick light rig like the Compadre is perfect for those out of town hunts...

Thanks mudpuppy. I really hate selling any detectors but the wife is putting the squeeze on me. Too many hobbies! Definitely will either replace Cibola with Compadre or just get a small coil for Cibola. Too many decisions!

A guy needs good clean hobbies,...She should be happy you like to build things and detect...My Wife knows I'm not sitting around in a bar when I'm out of town, just out picking up pennies..a guy needs at least 2 detectors...a water rig and a fast dry grounder...a guy also needs at least 5 boats, 2 airplanes, a dirt bike and a street bike, a chainsaw, a wrist rocket and a pellet gun, several revolvers, a shotgun, rifle and reloading gear, a compound and a recurve,...as long as a fellow doesnt golf, or collect beanie babies, then everything else should be good...

How many pairs of shoes does she have? Most Women on this Planet get along just fine barefoot or with a pair of flipflops! You go assert yourself!:lmfao: Let me know how that works out for you...I still have a dent in the top of my head from getting clubbed by one of those wooden sandals right in the soft baby spot back in the late 70's when they were popular and I was a newly wed...I get a little puddle up there when I'm out in the rain...birds come down and take a bath on top of my head even..its a good reminder...

Tony. It sounds like you already know what the compadre can do. I have 3 detectors and my main one I use is the compadre with the 5.75" coil. I have had it for 5 years now and if I had to sell off or get rid of any of my detectors it would definitely not be my compadre. It stays in my car at all times and even if I only have 10 minutes to hunt it is enough with my compadre. Today I used my Eldorado with the 7" widescan on it and I wish I would have been using the compadre. I just really enjoy using this simple, yet effective detector. I have decided on a compadre for all of my kids when they are old enough. I know you can't go wrong with a compadre. HH

Lol Mud! Well I got the boat, airplane, fish and hunt and fly and metal detect. Wife really is very supportive. It's not the detectors, it's the airplane. Overhauling my engine right now and that is some big bucks. I do drive a 14 year old truck with 240000 miles on it. She got a new car.

not anything against a compadre at all. however, my thought is that you should keep the cibola and get the small coil for it. i think it would be a more versatile machine. will be deeper and can use different coils on it. if you are going to have only one detector. selling the cibola for a compadre would be like selling a pick-up truck for a motorcycle. whatever you decide, good luck to ya.

Thanks jd66. One thing I have noticed about the Cibola is it sound a exactly like the Tigershark. Like a bee on steroids! I've found lots of good stuff with the Tigershark. The only reason I got the AT is because I live by Lake Murray and do some water hunting at the beaches on Mondays after the weekend party fest. The Tigershark is great, but gets heavy swinging all day. Anyway when I sell the Tiger and Sidewinder i'll either get a small concentric for the Cibola or get a Compadre. Thanks everyone for the help. Great group of guys on here!

that is one nice gold ring, and regarding the compadre I have owned both and if i was to buy another i would want it for finding small things and for use it trashy spots i would get the small coil . just me tho

Thanks! I was messing around in the back yard with the Tigershark last summer waiting on my buddy to show up to do some beach hunting on the lake and I found this antique ring. Pewter or something I think.

hay that s a cool find,

I did use the 8'' coil on my Compadre but felt it lost its magic ability to find smallish items, the 4'' coil although was ultra sensitive to small finds did not have the ground coverage,so finally went for the 7'' Concentric and hve found that to be the best of both worlds as its still sensitive to small finds but also give me a little more coverage.

Great little machine though.

I totally agree with jd66! But if you just have to sell it how much you want for her?

Thanks guys. Decided to keep Cibola and will get 5.75" concentric coil for it. Have the Tigershark and Sidewinder on Ebay. I appreciate all the help!

Smart choice Tony! The Cibola and 5.75" coil.

I found the Compadre runs heaps better with the small coil than the 8" donut, the 8" seems to give too many weak near-hits in comparison to the 5.75" and believe it actually misses shallow coins altogether sometimes. I don't like the 8" and Compadre team at all and thought the Compadre coming out with the small coil a top move on Tesoro's part.
