Common sense wins...

I have been wanting a second detector and I still do but I have decided to spend more time with my GT and try a lighter coil with it instead of buying another detector for now. I started thinking about a lighter swing and looking at the X-Terra70 and the Tejon. Then all of a sudden I was thinking of buying a Nautilus... the weight issue had gone by the wayside and I was thinking of buying the best machine I could get. Then I realized I have one of the best detectors money can buy and I have spent some bucks on it with the initial purchase, a Sun Ray Intruder S-5 coil, a Sun Ray inline probe, a 180 digi-meter. A bundle! but I can use it and tell you what I am going to dig more and more every day.

So... common sense prevaled. I ordered a Sun Ray S-12 Intruder coil which is not only bigger than the Tornado 10" coil I have but lighter as well. With that and the S-5 and an S-8 if I need it, I am set. I went out with it today for about six hours using the 10" coil the whole while. I had a few aches and pains when I got through but I can do it and did I mention, I love this detector! I can't wait to try the S-12.

Now, I still want more detectors but I have more clarity about what I want and why...
I want an easy and light machine, probably the X-Terra70
I want an underwater machine and...
I want a highly tweakable and powerful detector... a Nautilus but...
I don't think any of them will ever replace my GT, they will just be additions to the arsenal and they will have a purpose.

Thanks for listening!

the different rooms are like big advertisements and i'm really easily influenced into wanting stuff. I can't wait to try out the S-12 coil on mine. I really can't imagine a detector that is over all better than a SovGT with a meter and a inline probe. There may be detectors that are better at a single aspect or other but over all... nah! The GT with the additions is just about as good as it gets, me thinks.

Of course that wont stop me from buying other detectors but it will stop me from buying them for the wrong reasons.

You have alway's been a really big help here imo.

Thanks,

Julien

My plan is to use both detectors on relic sites and hopefully raise my button count with the Tejon but I love the GT too much to not use it too...

If I was to get another Tesoro the Tejon would be the one I would get. I find this was the best Tesoro I ever used and did good for me for the price it was. The Shadow X5 was my favorite non metered detector and the Tejon was close to it.
I think you will like the Tejon when relic hunting where Target ID is not as important as coin hunting, with coin hunting you will see the GT will surpass it with the tone ID.

Good luck and let us know how you do with the Tejon and the GT comparing them.

it wont matter what detector you end up buying as a second unit .......you will always gravitate back to the sov. I swear they are so reliable and dead accurate with target id .......just a sweet machine ........I am a knob and switch guy ......its the best machine bar none in this arena...........take care ........the more i play with other machines the more I relize the simplicity and quality of the sovereigns ..........good luck my man

I will! I think they should compliment each other really well.

Thanks,

Julien

Yeah, I have no doubt. I got the Tejon for two reasons. First... to find more brass buttons. The Tejon seem's to just pull buttons out of the ground, second... for relic hunting sites that aren't too trashy like wooded areas and construction sites. There is a LOT of civil war sites around here.

I'll let you know how it goes..
