Comments on new OUTLAW detector by RDF

 Great job Tesoro! I like the looks of this metal detector and I like the name,..."Outlaw". What I don't like is some of the new names out there in the industry (matrix, prism, gamma, alpha, etc.). Back in the old days detectors were called cool names like "patriot, eagle, american, king, bandit,etc.). Yea, ...I know the name is not what's important. It's the performance that counts but it just adds to the fun of the hobby if you have a cool name on it. Looks are important to me too ( I don't like a machine that looks like a" star wars ray gun.") Real bright colors are a turn off for me too (yellow, green, etc.) Who wants to be seen a mile away? Plus,... I don't think we have to worry about performance with Tesoro machines. They all perform well. I think Tesoro HAS been listening to it's users out there. I read these posts every day and I have seen a LOT of bragging on the Bandito II uMax. You can never please everyone all the time. I personally would not want the responsibility of coming up with a new unit. If you will look at the current models they now have,..there is almost every type and function you will ever need in them already like ( tones, target ID, surface rolling tones, ground balance etc). Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but please cut Tesoro some slack. I think that adding 3 COILS with LOWER RODS is UNHEARD OF in this industry. Again, THANKS TESORO and GREAT JOB :tesoro::detecting:

yep lotta bashers out there ...makes ya wonder what really drives that sort of attitude

I rekon its looks sweet as :tesoro:

Old marketing technique which also moves a lot of coils out of stock.
In the classic and vintage days is was common practice to sell a detector with one coil or the option of 2 or 3 coil combo packages.
Then someone thought we can make more money selling the detector with one coil and offering others as accessories. Some of the other manufacturers have been offering 2 coil combos again over the past several years. Only thing new is Tesoro has extra lower rods on hand they need to move out? So if Tesoro is smart offer the Outlaw with (any choice) one coil and 2 , 3 coil combos. That ay the customer can taylor the detector to what his needs currently are.

I don't think the guys were bashing the new detector as much as maybe being disappointed that their was really nothing new and exciting about this detector.
The new Outlaw should sell well, especially with the 3 coil package it comes with. That is a very nice feature and will make the detector very versatile.

What I think everyone was expecting was something with several of their existing detectors features combined into one unit. A 3 tone unit would be nice for the coin hunters, or maybe a notch system, or bigger easier to read meters.
If Tesoro had only modified their existing line up by adding tones to the Silver, Vaquero, and Tejon, they would have had more sales than they probably could have kept up with, and given them 3 new machines.
Their competitors lower end detectors all have tones and meters, Tesoro basically has the Golden with tones, I really don't count the Cortes' SUM mode as tones. Then their metered detectors only GB in the all metal mode.....That doesn't make sense to me.

Tesoro isn't know for building flashy detectors...just excellent quality beep and digs that have a cult like following....but maybe it's time to start with a clean slate and and design the detectors their customers want from them if they want to compete in the detector sales market.
Maybe hiring some new design engineers is the answer....Tesoro has the capabilities to build an awesome detector, but they have to step out of their comfort zone of beep and digs and do it. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.........

This is the first new Tesoro in many years. When the Tejon came out, it was rapidly followed by the Cibola and Vaquero, so.......

I will be there with a Outlaw demo and handing off the Outlaw to the winner. I will be with Les Burg at the Pro Gold booth and 49er miner booth. Hope to see you there!

Theyve had like ,what, seven years or so to come out with something....and it looks like they repackaged an old unit. It does seem like a good deal,bu Im hoping it will take off from the Tejon depth wise

I could have sworn someone said something like this elsewhere on the forum.
Humph....... must be the old age getting to me. Oh well.

O.K. already, get over it. Tesoro did not hande you your golden scepter you wanted for dirt cheap.
Can you please explain what it was about the Outlaw that did not function the way you wanted it too?
