Comments on my New/Used MX Sport  :usaflag::

I haven't really had the chance to use the MXS as yet ( got it last week)...but I have to comment on the build of it.

This is one of the most well built units I have ever seen. Everything is built tough...like a tank. It's all heavy duty material. Of course this makes it a bit heavy in weight too (4.0 lbs.) but not too heavy to enjoy for a couple of hours. I'll probably use my harness if it gets too heavy after a while. :surrender: Build quality is akin to Fisher's CZ-21.

I ordered the 7" coil for it right away and it arrived today. :clapping: It too is well built and it lightens the whole unit up a couple of ounces. I like the balance of it with that smaller coil.

Now to work with it and see what it can do for me. I am not that familiar with Whites digital detectors but I am sure that I can learn the sounds and go from there.

Thanks! Just wanted to comment on the quality of this fine unit. I think White's did a fine job on the build quality. :super:

Please keep us informed. I have my eye on this detector.

I got my MX Sport on Friday and here are a few quick observations before the first hunt.

Build Quality: I found the build quality very good. Everything fitted together real tight with no squeaks or rattles. Plastic good quality. Don't see any issues with this detector not holding up over the long term. Its what I would expect from Whites,

Tone Smear: Ran the detector in the Coin and Jewelry mode and fitted the detector with the 7" Deteck coil for the test. Sat a 4" nail right next to a zinc penny in a vertical position. Using normal sweep speed for me both the nail and penny where detected. I then sat the nail vertical on top of the penny and the penny was again detected but as I would expect the VDI number was dragged down to the mid 30's by the nail. I then moved the nail so it was on top of the penny but in a horizontal position. The MX Sport had a little trouble detecting the penny. Maybe only 50% of the time did it read the penny. So for the most part the MX Sport showed fast recovery speed with no tone smear.

Pinpointing: Checked the pinpoint function for normal operation with the penny. I found that the pinpoint volume would gradualy decrease as the penny was moved away from the coil in a linear fashion It also was able to detect the penny out farther than the detector did running in search mode. So I found the pinpoint mode to run as I expected

Hey Joe, did your mx sport run pretty smooth? Any ground balance or emi issues? Really want one of these machines but just don't want to deal with emi problems that some cheap machines have sometimes

I did not find the unit overly chatty. In my house and yard there was some noise but my house and surrounding yard is full of EMI so no surprise there. Every detector I have ever owned was a little noisy here. Some more than a little noisy. I took the MX Sport to a local park and did a quick hunt in a trashy area around some trees. I found the detector to run smooth with no falseing. I only had the sensitivity set at 5 but was picking up some clad coins and pull tabs in the 4 to 5 inch range no problem using the 7" Detech coil. ID was good but I dug most everything to check ID accuracy so I did not see any issues. The unit ground balanced fine in my dirt.

My dealer told me that the MX Sport could be a little chatty depending on surrounding EMI and the mode, sensitivity settings selected. My quick test was in Coin/Jewlery mode and pretty much factory default settings.
