Coming back to Whites

I've used Whites since early 80 or 81 and always loved the detectors, I fell like I'm missing some thing with my Etrac so its on ebay right now. As soon as it sells I'm ordering a V3i that was tied with the E as my other choice ordered it. I still like the E very much and have no question about how deep it is but with the gold prices they are want to find more than just silver. The E will find gold but it has to be the larger. I like the "resolution" of the V with its discrimination with 191 segments where the E has 80% of the good targets all fall on the FE12 line. I like the idea of a larger spread it VDI. Along with a US made detector and metal compared to plastic parts. Some of these things that I think about are just me, and maybe don't matter to someone else.

Welcome home Rick. I bet your gold count will go way up and I really don't think your silver count will suffer that much either.

Kinda the same for me, I sold an Explorer SE to buy my V3i, don't regret it at all. I have had the V3i for a week and a half and I feel more comfortable with it than I ever did with the minelab, I think it has to do with the way the target information is displayed and the tones, plus I have faith in the Whites.

All good detectors mentioned. You will be happy with your choice. ROB

I agree, a bunch of targets fall in that 80% good targets FE12 line. My friend / co-worker was at work this week talking about metal detecting and how many years we set the discrimination to just above nickels so we would miss the pull tabs and how much of the "goodies" we missed, we did that in the 80's and we not "gold" minded. Now with the high price of gold, even the smallest targets are worth finding.

The V3i is spectacular for finding jewelry and also for setting up in changing situations.Your going to be having some fun!

Two other factors that lean in White's favor are
  1. Customer service, second to none.
  2. The availability of parts. ML is not set up for parts and will not sell many parts even on current models.

I can't argue with you on those two points, Neil.

I hunted with my E for about 3 hours yesterday while the GF used my Vx3. She is a begginer and was using stock coin/jew program. On our way back to the truck I took the vx3 and ran deep silver. The first thing I noticed is the weight and balance. I could swing that all day..the E is heavier. Only got one screamer.. a nice old spoon that was completely green, so i am thinking copper.. I had hit old flat buttons in this area, so I will be back..

Actually what's funny is both detectors weight the same, it's the balance. It's also the reason that some guys Mod the Minelabs to run on a Whites rod setup. I might do it with mine, maybe. ROB

I second that. I tried out an E-trac before I went with a V3i. The thing that sold me on the V over the E was the different type of target information that the V3i offered that the E-trac did not.

And I will also admit there was some nationalist pride involved as well. I have said for years that I will not buy American unless it is of equal ability and build quality as a foreign product. This came from years of being bashed by friends for buying overseas cars and bikes. My answer to them was, when America gives me a viable choice instead of building the same old junk and expecting me to buy it out of blind loyalty by wrapping it in the flag - I will then buy American first. In the case of the V3i it represents the good ole USA very well and I am happy to support a US based manufacturer that builds quality products that out perform the foreign competition. If it did not, I would not.

I totally agree with you, I sent my 25-30 y.o. Whites in for service last spring and got it back ( I think better due to better test equipment ) than when it was built. No where else can you send in a 30 or more y.o. detector and get repaired or serviced. Most of the old company's are not even around or owned by someone else that couldn't care less.

on the 2nd about part, I talked to a dealer that couldn't get the coil bolts to sale extra.

My necklaces finds have gone up 500% since having The V3 ..........Don't overlook the foil Range, when hunting on a physically active hunt site.

Also The V3 is a nickel machine to......... I have several Clad nickel Targets in my test garden and The V3 hits them all like a 4 alarm fire bell.

Several other detectors, I used on the same targets would all be iffy signals, with VDI'S bouncing all over.

Some detectors would VDI in the iron Range, We are just talking clad nickels buried 3-5 inch's ?

alot of Jewelry falls in the Nickel Range

WVRick, Yes i too went a stray for a bet ben with Whites for 25 + years but always had my Whites Eagle II SL 90
I sent the Minelab SE-Pro down the road for a Whites VX3 Mickfin

I think you will really like the VX3 Mick. :clapping:

Thanks Larry i think so toooo, Mick

Well the E sold tonight so as soon as the buyer receives it and is happy I'm ordering the V3i, more than likely a week. But with this heat I can wait...hahaha

There is no clad nickles, but since it is not a silver coin I can see how a person could call it that lumping it in with the clad coins. It's easy to answer the question, " find anything" with "just some clad" instead of " I found some clad dimes, real pennies, zinc pennies, clad quarters and of course some nickels". We know what they mean.

My Baby is here!!!! delivered today and as soon as I got in from work put it together and hit the yard, it sounded fine on a few coins I had buried. :detecting:
Only snag was the order was short the case and PP , but the distributor contacted Whites for me and I'll get that next week!!! :heh:
