Coming back home to the Xterra (70 to be exact!)

Hi folks! It's been a while. Been detecting a total of 20 years and just getting back to detecting after a two year hiatus. I'm one of those guys that had to try every new machine that came down the pike. Bought, sold and swapped more than I can remember! But there were always two or three machines I always seem to come back to and one of them has always been the Minelab Sovereign. The other has been the Xterra series. I've owned the 305, 50, 505,705 and 70. I have a used 70 coming with a 10.5DD 7.5Hhz coil. Never had a chance to try this great machine with that coil so I'm pretty psyched! I've always been a fan of the Minelab DD coils as that is all the Sovereigns utilized and that is what I have the most experience using. These days I look for lightweight, ergonomic detectors that work and work well. The Xterras certainly fit that bill for me. I love everything about the machine. Where do i begin? The meter is large and easy to read, the rod set up is great. It punches deep and all the controls function well and CORRECTLY! Love the thicker hand grip. It feels so right in your hand, doesn't it? I can't stand machines that have a smaller handgrip. I find they actually add to fatigue in your wrist as your always trying to grasp it too tightly. I LOVE that it uses 4 AA batteries! And I have found for me that the 7.5 Khz freq. is a good all around freq. for general coin AND jewelry hunting. I don't feel the need to own one in each freq. although I wouldn't mind trying out that LF digger 6" coil in my iron trashy back yard. Anyway, it's good to be back. Can't wait till my 70 rolls in next Tues on the mail truck. Do a search on this forum with my name and you will see why I'm coming back to the xterras. Nov of 2005 I believe it was. The post starts with YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!! Hope to have more to post like that in the near future. See ya soon and HH my friends, George Fatizzi

Good to have you back in camp George!
I feel the same as you, to the point that I'll never be without an Xterra regardless of whatever else I might have. It's just that good!

Well, I've been lurking around here for a couple of years since I sold my X-70. WHAT A STUPID MISTAKE THAT WAS 11. I had one of each coil made for it!!. Now I'm looking at getting another X-70, (705 I guess). I can never forget the sweeeet sound that 3Khz coil made on silver.

The Terra 70/705 has been my most productive coin hunting machine followed by the ET , the 705 has had 10 Gold rings too .
Best place for the Terra is dry stony or sandy beaches or parks and dont forget that the DD coil fitted is not waterproof only resistant.
Good luck.

Welcome back. I have a 705 now but to tell you the truth I like the 70 better. I'm thinking of selling my 705 and getting another 70. Haven't decided yet.

Yep, Been there, done that!! Of all of the detectors I have tried in the last 10 years, I always go back to the X70, I've had 3 705's and the 70's that I have now, 2 of them with SN #'s under 2000 are just better than any that I've used. NN Mark
