Colorado nugget hunting laws

jlw

New member
Does anyone in the state of Colorado know the laws of detecting along rivers, streams and public highways I'm guessing that the state and national forests are off limits. Just trying to find someplace that I can look for nuggets that I won't get thrown in jail or ( worse yet get shot!)

You should be able to find all the info on the laws on line under your state govenrment and D.N.R. regulations. I would imagine you have it somewhere under colorado.gov , dont recall hearing anything about metal detecting but claim jumping and getting shot over it could be a problem but again under you state government section you should be able to find info about claims. I have seen some good yutube videos on sluicing and panning out there and wow does one guy have the spot pulling out nice size nuggets but where he finds them is not in the river its up on the high banks on the inside bends, look for big round boulders the signs of the ancient river.
