Cold weather and the Explorer's performance

I haven't got to test the explorer's performance out in below freezing weather for long periods of time yet. Although I hunted with it a little in 28 degree conditions for a short period of time. It seemed to respond OK but maybe was a little sluggish when switching to different settings out in the field. My buddy (who hunts with a different brand detector) had problems with the screen going blank in cold weather. He still had the audio sounds but no visual screen. I hope this doesn't happen to the explorer. Has anyone tested it out in these conditions and had any problems? Thanks in advance, Tom
PS- Still waiting for the weather to break here to get out (below freezing for 3 weeks now and 7" of snow on the already frozen ground with more on the way <IMG SRC="/forums/images/frown.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":("> )

I have hunted in the mid 20's and have experienced either an entirely blank screen or the upper right quarter of the screen being blank. It freaked me out at first but I do believe it is from the cold though.

Tom, Ive been out 3 times with temps below 20 and quite a bit below freezing.. the screen seems fine but I have noticed the sluggishness of the push buttons going into pinpoint and in and out of menus...just delays a second more than normal...performance seems great..maybe even better than normal on depth...frozen ground?

Do you use a cover? either sunrays or minelabs? maybe thats protecting mine.. I havent noticed any screen problems even at 20 degrees

Yes, I use the Sun ray cover. The problem only lasts for a few minutes after the detector is first turned on.

had explore on the beach this week in single digits and seemed to work fine, stan
