Just wonder how many of you have started with a NON - Minelab machine to the E Trac.
How hard has the switch been. How long to get comfortable Are you happy you did.
I run a SOV GT for six months or so the tone were not hard to learn be we did not gel.
Thanks Mike G

I have never owned a Minelab before and almost bought one a year and a half ago and made a decision to go with a Fisher F-75, BUT... At the end of April, I finally bought a Minelab and I opted to go with the E-Trac.

This will probably be my last detector purchase ever, because I am so pleased with it and the first day I went out and found my first silver with it. I found a 1953 Rosie at a depth of 8". I was sold that moment on.

It has been a very easy machine for me to learn and I believe I had the basics down the first day I had the machine, because I read the manual on-line almost two times before I actually received my machine and I tweaked the Minelab Coin Mode before I went out on my first hunt. Keep in mind I am not a novice detectorist, I have been hunting since 1986 and I am a bit of a techie person and was up for the challenge of learning a new machine.

My silver count has already exceeded my silver finds with my F-75 that I just sold today. Not only that but I found my first Standing Liberty Quarter in MAY 2009, with a barely legible 1926 date. The date is gone and I can barely just make out the 6.

Bottom line I love this machine and glad I did not purchase a Minelab about a 1.5 years ago, because I probably would have gotten an early version.

E-Trac is AWESOME!!!

It took some time to get used too at first but I have to say that I'm glad I made the switch. I find myself going back to all the old spots and pulling out some great finds that my machine and others have left in the ground. It loves silver and I've found more (silver) with it in the short time I've had it than with my other detector that I owned for several years. With the finds that I've pulled in I can honestly say that it is almost paid for.

If you truly want a great machine and will take the time to learn what it has to offer I know you will not be sorry.

never used minelab till jan. after years of fishers and teknetics and whites i got the etrac. it drove me crazy once in a wile the first 2 months i had it but once it clicked with me it was over with I fell in love with mine. i cant put it down now. i crank up the sense and load my pattern and settings i feel like using and i zone out of the real world into the subsoil world like a worm. I dont think il have another new detector till the next big minelab detector advancement comes along.

I came from one of the black machines and have had no complaints. Its a little different learning curve, but stay with it the finds will come. My finds have changed to older and deeper and you know when you go deeper you find the stuff that been looked over for years, better. I have no regrets in changing to the E-Trac, I still don't understand all the bells yet but I'm close. Tell you the truth I really like these guys that are getting these machines and not giving them a chance and then selling them off quickly, the way I look at it if they don't have an E-Trac (or an Explorer) there just leaving stuff in the ground for us! Anyway good luck...

I had never owned a minelab product before buying my etrac. I borrowed my buddy's etrac for a few hunts while my F75 was in the shop. I found more silver in that week than I had with all my other detectors for the year. I didnt have a problem with using it, GOIO had set it up in coin mode and told me to dig all high tones 6 inches and deeper. The first silver I found on the first day was a 1924D SLQ at 7 inches. I use 4 tones which works for me and I think made it easy for me to use. I still hunt in the stock coin mode with the upper right opened up, deep on, gain at 30 and 4 tones. I hit a hunted out park with GOIO and Mcetrac this weekend and came out with some wheaties, a merc and 3 indians. The pro coil is good at separation and its still fun to get out and hunt. TMAN...

I added the E-trac to my arsenal after using a Whites DFX for several years. They are both good machines in their own way. The learning curve moving that way was very short for me. I have had to get used to the sounds meaning slightly different things, the response for deeper targets being clearer on the E-trac, and slowing down a lot to make it work right. I seem to be finding more keeper coins with the E-trac, but a less of the common coins and jewelry. This is probably because I cannot cover the same amount of ground in a given amount of time with the ML. Overall, I am very happy with the E-trac.
