I just got a Coinstrike for the second go around and it has been over two years since I traded my first one. I took it to large sports field that has been producing many coins from the early 1900's, with some as deep as 8 to 9 inches. I have been using my CZ6a and I always find at least a couple of these deep coins. I figured it would be a good test for the Coinstrike's depth capabilities. There is minimal trash in this field and sure enough, the Coinstrike found several early wheats in the 8 inch range. Well, open field hunting is not what I got the CS for and I wanted to test it in the trashiest spots I hunt or try to hunt. This is what I remembered about my first CS, it's ability to hunt in these spots. I had tried to hunt this particular spot a couple of weeks ago with my last detector with a small coil and I dug too many beaver tails and pulltabs that rang in as coins on both the screen and audio. Well, the CS waded right through this trash and it was extremely accurate with both its VDI's and audio. I found 25 coins in a 45 foot by 15 foot area. I found 4 wheats and one seated dime(1890) I used a slow sweep and made sure to overlap my swings. The audio resposne time in in my opinion the best in any detector I have ever used. Even with the 8 inch coil, I could pick coins out from junk inches apart. Most of these older coins were in the 4 to 6 inch range, but the oldest wheat(1916) was 8 inches deep and there was a nail in the plug and an old beaver tail right next to it and I mean right next to it. The only problem I had was with old, rusty bottle caps and I remember having this problem with the first CS. I always ran my disc at 99 on the first CS and I started playing around with my settings this time. I had the disc a 60 and I changed it to 99 when I got into these bottle caps. It helped alittle, but I still dug a couple. I am use to a Minelab EX with Iron mask at a very low setting and I listen to all the sounds and I had great success with this type of hunting, so this is how I set the CS up. I didn't notch anything out and I set the disc to 50 to 60 and I swung real slow. This is truely an unbelievable detector. I will probably try one of the new small coils, but it works super with the stock 8 inch coil. R.L.
