Coinstrike

Question. My Coinstrike has a real problem with bottlecaps. Is that normal or do I have a problem. Thinking about putting it up for sale but if it has a problem I will not sell it.....Jackintexas

Wouldn't be so bad if they were not round.

I had mine out for a while today. It made a solid 34 hit and ended up being a 7/16" flat washer. I think it's just the nature of the hobby, the detector makes it's best guess and that's it. The next hole showed a 58 and I dug for 30 or 40 minutes getting down to the object only to find a rusty piece of something resembling gun barrel tube. I should have known better than digging that by the way the vdi numbers acted.

Well are they just coming in on high tone, or are the numbers calling them coins?

Mark

Jack,
There is "No Perfect Unit"....
They all have their good and bad.
This is why some have more that one unit....

I have had Coin Strikes and Edges, I have a Edge now, I have dug round rusty washers with both, and other units to, but have made some good finds also.
When I dig trash with any unit, I put it in the trash and move on.
Some times, the more trash that you get rid of, the better chance you have of finding something good.
The best disc unit out there is your digger.

Jack, it doesn't sound like it has a problem other than where you hunt (some places are way more worse for bottle caps than other areas), the way you hunt (mainly coin hunting, or relic hunting, ect). So, if your thinking about selling it, or trading it would you please send me a PM? maybe we can work something out.

Mark

Thanks BJ: Benn detecting 35 years. Had 40 or so detectors. I have 12 now. None every gave me the bottlecap problem I now have with the Coinstrike. When I was young (I am now 79) bottlecaps were everywhere as are pull tabs. In older parks the bottlecaps are still there. I am not knocking the Coinstrike. I am sure it is an excellent relic machine.....If anyone is interested in a trade let know. ID detector only.......Jack

Coinstrikes sell for around $300.00 to a little more with just the standard stuff , or to say no extra stuff. (I got my C$ for $270.00 with a bad coil, that was another $40.00= $310.00)

The only detector I have that's around that, that I could trade is my Whites 5900 Di pro-sl. (it is in very nice condition) On flea-bay they go for around the $300.00 range as well.

I'm not saying I would trade it for sure but I might? if you would have some interest in the Whites let me know and I will give the trade some serious thought. (who knows you may already have one, or maybe not even like Whites detectors)

Mark

Hey Mark: I don't need a 5900 but I would like an Omega 8000 or another detector along that line....I am mostly a park-school grounds hunter.....Jack

Honestly I dig a lot of screw caps with my CZ 70, once they are in the ground for a long time and get that rust halo they sound good to most detectors. Sometimes if i do a 360 scan of the target, i'll get a choppy sound (number/target display jump)...thats usually a clue that it's iron, but im "ocd" and dig em anyway, even though i know better. I just bought a C$ on ebay so I'll do some experimenting compared to my CZ and let you all know how it turns out.

I wondered who got that C$?
If this was the most recent that passed through flea-bay then it was the one for a Buy It Now of $299.00 and free shipping or best offer.
I had put in an offer for $250.00 and the guy sent me a counter offer for $270.00 but I was at work and buy the time I got home someone used the buy it now and the auction was already closed. I was going to go the $270.00 but! it wasn't in the cards for me that go around.

Why I'm really looking for a Coinstrike is I'm thinking it might be an upgarde for a detector I've got loaned out. now its getting late in the year I'll probably be able to pick one up over the winter.

Enjoy the detector!

Now I feel bad Mark. If i cant get along with it i'll msg you and let you give it a stab. I already have a 5 inch and 10.5 inch coil for it so i hope it's not a waste. I thought that 300 was too good to pass up on that machine. Sorry about the ninja move lol.

LoL! nothing was done unfairly, it just went the way it went.

You'll do better with the detector if you start out feeling good about the deal. If I wanted or needed as much as you did then I had the same option to go the $300.00

The coinstrike when it came out seemed to have a Love/Hate relationship with owners, the problem in that was the bad or the few problems it had made a louder noise than the good did on the forums and the internet. So, in the that the C$ never gained the popularity (fan base) that it deserved and in turn the C$'s resale value suffers.
One notable thing (repeated reports) about the C$ was its ability to retrive small round objects out of trashy area's, but small round things included a bit of a love for bottle caps and washers, so in areas very populated with these items the C$ loses it's owner's love for it due to all the little round junk item's they dig that the detector shows as iffy targets (possible good targets). So the bad reports splashed the internet with post of frustrated owners that were wanting to get rid of the detector! I haven't got the chance to do a lot of hunting with mine, but I've found area's where I live where the C$ seemed to excell, at the same time I've found some pleaces were it became a bit of a head scratcher. My stand about the detector at this time is if I get better with the detector I can manage it in the tuff places.
In my test garden,
It seems to be pretty deep running, and it seems to be able to even ID pretty good down to 8" (to me that's pretty amazing, Large Cent ID's around 34)
What was even more amazing was the detector with the little CS-5 coil! it still hit the 8" deep large cent! and ID's it! (now the small Fisher coil may do the same thing)

I also worked out a numeric depth scale that works really well! (to 6" anyway)

Enjoy The Hunt!

Oh, I just relized that I never stated in this topic that I already have a Coinstrike, what I have on load is a CZ-7a Pro and my brother is using it. The CZ is a good detector but I'm thinking the Coin$trike may work for my brother a little better the way he hunts and it having the numeric ID system.

Another thing the Coinstrike suffer from was a Very High New price tag! I have read some comments from a few dealers that they had trouble selling the detector for the price that Fisher thought it was worth, so the dealers didn't push them much either. They said they knew it was a good detector, but that it wasn't that good!
I've read many comments that stated the detector was to ahead of its time, so its thought by some that if the detector had been out on the market at a later date that it may have done better.

Mark

Then I would sell it. C$'s are notorious bottle cap detectors. that is one of the trade off's for a great detector.
