Coinstrike vs CZ3D

kickback

New member
I'm a newcomer to detecting, just started in Oct.I want to get another detector.I'm interested in coinhunting.I'm torn between a C$ and a 3D.I have some old sites to hunt but they have a lot of modern trash at them.I have a Tesoro Vaq. and want a multi tone detector to help with target i.d.Any of you that have used both your pros and cons would be appreciated. The ground is frozen and snow covered here in Montana so I can drive my self nuts deciding on what detector to buy until spring. Thanks

Hi
The C$ has a much longer learning curve (10-20 hrs). The CZ is much easier to learn / straight forward. The C$ excels in a iron enviroment and the CZ will give you trouble on deep iron/rusted nails. The CZ has very good depth. I myself prefer the Fisher ID edge as it is easy to use (short learning curve) and is light weight. Its excellent in trash and iron and has great depth. Don't be fooled by the small housing this machine packs some punch and is one of the best kept secrets around. Which ever of these detectors you decide on you won't go wrong. If possible try before you buy.
Of course this is just my own opinion!

The Coinstrike is probably not a good choice if you are new to detecting, you may grow very frustrated. The CZ's & ML Explorers are pretty widely noted as being the deepest VLF coin detectors on the planet. You'll see some debates about it, but I think you'll find broad usage patterns are the bottom line about it. But when you get down to the ultimate depths at the limits of detection, experience begins to count for eking out the last inch or two. Both the Coinstrike and CZ have small coils for trash usage as does the Edge.

For a newbie I think the Edge would be ideal. Lightweight, excellent ID at depth, can be used almost as a turn on & go right from the start. Then as you become more comfortable notching and varying the adjustments can be experimented with. But the adjustments are not as complex as the Coinstrike so you have less chance of mis-adjustment and not wondering if one adjustment is off.

I may get some debate from other Fisher users here, but the Edge with small coil in trash is hard to beat. It's big advantage is seeing the continuous ID of rejected targets when in iron.

Between the CZs and the Edge, which would be better for relic hunting? What about park, and school hunting? It sounds like the Edge might have the "edge" :D in an iron infested relic site. What about sweep speed compared to the CZs? I know the CZs work well on a wet salt water beach. How about the Edge? Anyone try one yet?

Please don't recommend the C$ for any of the above. They are out of the question, for me. I've tried them several times and really don't like them. It's the same with the Explorer, and DFX. I just don't like units that are that complex. I don't have a clue on how to operate all the features on my phone either, and don't care. :) It's funny in a way. I was a senior automotive designer for 12 years in Detroit, and senior systems analyst for 30 years. I don't want to deal with anything that complex anymore.

Thanks for any input, and good hunting,
OldeTymer
