Coinstrike visual ID same for 6" deep nickel & dime

They both jump mid to upper 20s, just perfect for the clad dime. But why does it think the nickel is a penny or dime? I must ask is it misadjusted by me? If so, why does the clad dime ID correctly? Is it a defect of the detector that only applies to nickels? Is it possible they intentionally designed the detector so deep nickels would go up in ID just to make sure the lower conductors don't ID as iron? Could they do that without making deep pennies & dimes read high?

Also, why does the volume control go to 10 when mid-way nearly blew out my eardrums? Yes, on 6" deep coins with $20 headphones! Used midrange sensitivity & negative threshold, was quite stable that way. Thanks in advance for any replies. HH, George (MN)
 
I think one of the engineers said something like mineralization & depth can affect the numbers on nickles? I forget exactly as it was awhile ago. I can't recall it happening to me in my soils, but maybe cetain areas? To me it's not a bad thing, to shoot a nickle up ouit of the trash range. This maybe explains why folks do real well finding nickles w. the C$.
I agree the C$ may be the loudest detector I have ever used. I once ran mine on 10 with Killer B. headphones (also SUPER loud!). Problem is, get usted to that and any other detector you try will not sound loud enough. I thought the T2 was not loud at first, probably due to being a C$ man since it came out. I now keep the C$ volume set @ around 7...& let it save that on shut down.

Hi George,

That is one of the things I like about the CS. The way it will raise the id of low conductors at depth instead of dropping them can be very useful. Sensitivity and threshold settings affect the distance at which this occurs. As Bill said, ground mineralization makes a difference as well.

For an example where this is beneficial take foil range targets. You could set the CS to notch out foil, yet have the deeper foil targets rise in id to the nickel range, which would mimic a blanking feature. Shallow foil notched out, deeper foil signals giving audio responses in the nickel range.

I still don't fully understand it but I'm in the process of getting it mapped out in the air then in my ground and will share with all as I get it complete. I'm sure the ground will make a major difference.
