coinstrike threshold settings

how much of a difference in depth if any do you get when you change the threshold from 2 down to -10.. someone told me that the threshold effects depth. i usually try to keep the threshold at 0 or 1 if possible and dont like to go any father than -5 unless i have to.. just wanted to know what the experts say. i had read that someone said the nearer to zero you can get it the better. also i can set the discrimination down to about 40 whereas i had run it at 50 before without much of a problem in most places here. is there any downside to setting it that low? thanks for any help and happy hutning.

The threshold will have a major effect on depth. Do a search for Mike Hillis' coinstrike page and you'll find some charts he did showing the cause and effect on sensitivity and threshold and how they related to depth. Some great info on his page that'll significantly speed up the learning curve on the C$.

I don't think it's Mike's web site, unless he's taken it over from John-KY.....
But he does have some great graphs & there's tons of info there that should be of help.
Even 0 thresh will get alot better depth, but also alot more chatter. Think of it as a second sensitivity almost.......

thanks guys. i am going on a 4 hour hunt saturday morning and will try to keep the threshold at zero if i can. if i find anything good i will post some pics. bill as always thank you for your info.i enjoy watching some of your videos posted on youtube. wish we had some of those old colonial places in the woods here to hunt. have a nice day and happy hunting.

Your right Bill, for some reason I though Mike did the page.

At any rate, here's the URL:

http://home.insightbb.com/~johnhetti/coinstrike/index.htm

IF the URL gets scrambled, just hit the quote button on this post and all will be revealed (this scramble function has to be the dumbest feature yet, kind of difficult to share information with all the censorship).

Its John's site. He was just nice enough to put some of my stuff there.
