Coinshooting in Mid-MO

Hello all! I have not had the opportunity to post in a while; had tech issues with the phone and laptop (both now replaced). I thought I would throw a clip together of two recent hunts. One was at an old picnic grove that is now pretty dense timber. I went with two friends, both with AT-Pro's. I found a handful of wheats, 3 Mercury dimes, a 1943-P war nickel, and an older Buffalo. I was using the 13"x17" Smart coil, and it handled well in the moderately trashy ground. There was a substantial amount of iron trash, but I was able to pick out the goodies. Both AT-Pro's only came up with 1 silver dime and 1 wheat cent.

Next, I hit a Fremont-era Civil War Union camp site. The ground is relatively clean, save for some 1800's iron, agricultural iron, and light modern junk. This is the campsite that I was previously told was "hunted out." I used the 13"x17" coil and Auto+3 sensitivity, which held consistently at 25-28. As before, I proved different and found some lead, an infintry coat button, and two Seated half-dimes (1857-O and 1858-O). Needless to say, I was pretty excited. The Geohunt feature helped me to keep track of where I had previously swept in the open hayfield that now covers the site. I shot some video of the hunts and have attached below.

After 6 months with the CTX, I remain very happy with the machine and impressed with its performance. I am excited to see how it handles this winter.

I also should mention that I did a Civil War relic hunt, and posted that information in the Civil War forum here on Findmall:

I used the 13"x17" coil (pretty much my standard these days) and Auto+2 Sensitivity. Most relics were 3 inches or so deep.

Great recoveries Bryan. Always nice to see CTX users pulling coins and relics from places that were considered to be "beat to death". Finding two half-dimes in one outing is an excellent accomplishment, not to mention the other goodies. Nicely done. And thanks for sharing. HH Randy

Did you feel the large coil gave you accurate depths on your finds?

Yes, on coin-sized objects. I have pulled some small lead pistol balls and some small brass that showed deeper. The half dimes indicated 2 inches deeper than they really were. I think that has more to do with size, as I have had small objects show as deeper than they really were with the 11-inch coil too.
