A tad of super glue was applied to the rim of the coin in order to hold it in an upright position.
Photo was then taken of the coin at a slight angle.

Nice shots! I never would have thought to introduce a harsh substance like super glue to a valued coin. Does it pop right off with no harm done? The result is wonderful -- not flat.
I much prefer women on coins. I feel they convey a true strength and beauty that the images of men do not compare to. It was for that reason I was delighted when the "golden" dollars were minted -- not for the joy to have more coins to tote.
Did you dig the 1803 from the ground? What is the oldest coin you have recovered?

Thank you for the kind words Adria.
I don't think I would put super glue on a coin with any real value although it does wipe of with acetone.
The 1803 large cent is a dug coin. I posted that picture because of the unusual die crack that runs across the bottom right bust. I have looked at many 1803 pennys and have as yet seen one similar.
My oldest dug coin is a 1749 farthing.

Awesome photography. How did you do it? What type of camera, settings, edits?
Also, what state are you finding those oldies?
Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment Dave.
The camera is a Fuji 2800. I'm not a photographer (as a matter of fact this is only the second camera that I have owned. The first being a Poloroid.) so I can't help you on settings. What I did was to super glue the coin on edge upright. Then take the picture at a slight angle using macro mode. Then I cut and pasted the image onto a black background.
I'm from Maine but living in Mass. right now. What town are you in?
