coins, rings, button and piles of junk at the "Y"

Today, I hit an area which I call the Y. Two roads split off and there was me in the middle with my detector. The city bought it back in 1914 and it has several large trees on the property. The park & rec dept actually maintain the grounds. When I first arrived, I see the groundskeeper on his tractor across the street (which is where I parked) so I approached him and asked if he would be mowing the lawn at the Y. ( I explained that I didn't want to get in his way if that is where he was headed) The groundskeeper told me he already took care of it yesterday. :) He then said to me "I don't know if you will find anything over there.... have fun" So that is exactly what I did. 13 wheat cents, 1917, 1917D, 1938, 1939, (4) 1940, (2) 1941, 1945, 1949 and 1951D. I am surprised I didn't find any silver... :( I then found my first gold ring lol after coming home and washing it off, I realized it was anything but real gold. It hit a nice smooth and steady 136 on my meter. I then found a "silver" ring lol....far from silver but it did register 177 on my meter. The button hit a nice high pitch tone & 180 on my meter. I also found fluffy's collar and real happy I didn't find him in the ground with it lol. I can say I had lots of fun, digging and exercise in the beautiful picture perfect weather (80's low humidity underneath the shaded lot) Thanks for looking - Jim

Say-- looks to me like no one is hunted that . Any detectorist in his right mind would have dug those targets and look at all the brass and copper . there must be somthing good in it and any rings shows me rings are being lost , just as easy to lose a good one as a cheep one , and with all that junk if they went to look for it i dont think they would find it looks like another good spot to me i stopped out for awile and got rained out now its going to be Hot upper 90,s be a little more paitient with that spot and you may just see a nice gold ring come out

Hey Gunnar,

I agree with you. I have the same feeling that it hasn't been hunted (and if it has not very well) as there were a good amounts of targets. A couple of the wheats were 6 or so inches but the rest were very shallow. In fact I hit a small cache of wheats (5) in one hole. The rings were also shallow (no more then an inch) As you can see there was plenty of junk coming out of the ground. The ground is VERY trashy with lots of garbage targets. Personally, I would love to see some silver come out of the ground. I thought for sure I would have seen a glimpse....maybe next time.

That was my thought this morning when I first arrived. Maybe next time around.
