I tested some Canadian coins on my Elite 2200 to see how they would register. Here are the results:
Pennies 1941-zinc
1962-penny
1971-penny
1973-quarter
1974-penny
1976-quarter
1978-quarter
1983-penny
1986-penny
1992-penny
1994-penny/quarter
1998-zinc
2000-zinc
2004-iron
Nickel 1958-zinc
Quarter 2000-penny
2 dollar 1996-penny
So it appears as though our friends to the north don't have as easy a job at determining what a target is likely to be. I find it interesting that the alloy content of the Canadian coins has changed so much over the years.
