Coins everywhere.....

Today was yard mowing day, hot work as it was 94 with a 101 heat index, but since I was already soaked with sweat and wasn't going to get any hotter I rode up to the ballfields and started hunting a small graveled parking area I haven't hunted before. The Golden was getting serious interference from the transformers, and it beeped multiple times on every swing. Thought the interference was causing it but I pinpointed one of the beeps and got a quarter and two nickels in the same hole, six inches away were five pennies that came up together. In an area not much bigger than a car, approximately where the red square is in the bottom photo, I got 9 quarters, 10 dimes, 6 nickels and 58 pennies. Except for maybe four times every signal was two or more coins, and three to five coins several times. One of the dimes was maybe 5 inches down the other coins were barely under the surface. I only stayed 20 minutes or so before I burned out, but was still getting multiple coin signals on every swing when I quit. Seldom post finds, especially newer coins, but $4.13 in less than a half hour isn't too bad:).

You're hot on the trail of them coins, nice work JB, I too did about a hunded deep knee bends this morning found one Indian head and one wheat cent plus about half of what you found. Mine were mostly roten zinc cents, usually end up throwing half of them away! Thanks for posting............Hombre

Bet you are going back there soon before someone ID's the location and helps you hunt it! ;)

Interesting photo. I've been studying it trying to find the reason for coins being in that particular area. There seems to be no reason-as to sit there or stand there would block the view of the game. Maybe there was a concession stand there?

Until a few years ago a lot of adult softball tournaments were held on that field, before the fence around the parking area was put up and the concession stand was built, and the tournament sponsors would usually put a tent in that area and sell cokes and snacks. Now it's used as a parking area for the high school baseball team and coaches, and also parking for home football games. I would think most of the coins were from the softball tournaments, but that was an unusually large number of pennies from a concession stand area. I left a lot of coin range signals I didn't dig so there was probably still a bunch of coins there when I left, but I told two park and rec guys who detect about the coins I found there, and the signals I left, so they probably cleaned it out after they got off work this afternoon..

that would be my guess too as you can see what looks like dirt trails up to the square area(concession stand)

Good observation. I'm beginning to see how aerial photos-maybe from Google earth?-could be handy. l gotta look into that.
