Coins and Jewelry, Parks and Beaches: Eldorado or Vaquero?

StvS

New member
HI I'm mostly MDing for coins and jewelry primarily in the Portland OR/Western WA area (high mineralization) in parks and river/fresh beaches with occassional saltwater beach. I'm trying to figure out, for what I'm doing, if the HOT coils and 14 khz on the Vaq outweighs the value of a true all metal mode on the Eldorado. These seem to be what I came up with as major differences when I boiled it all down. Any other considerations?

I've seen prior posts on the Vaq vs. Eldorado, and the Eldorado seems to have the edge, but I wanted to check with other experts here on my specific needs (little relic hunting, little prospecting)

I have the opportunity to get either at about the same price.

Thanks.

Get the Vaquero, especially for the beach..It has manual Ground Balance control, to help neutralize the salt..

I cant give you a comparison, but I do have the Eldorado, which (mine) does have manual ground balance. I've used my Eldorado at saltwater beaches a lot, and it performs very well. If you have the 8" dd coil you will get good depth with it, but even the standard 9 x 8 coil does well, the 10 x 12 goes deeper, but is heavier to swing for long periods. Whichever one you get it should perform ok...I even used my Eldorado in the surf once, and it perfromed well, but the coins were quite shallow. It did handle the salt water ok though.
