Coins and a whatisit?

Went out tonght and found 20 coins (not that great). One coin was a Mercury dime but couldn't read the date. The other piece was a teddy bear about 7/8 inches long. I will post two pictres one at a time because I don't know how to post multple photos. The piece feeld heavy (probably some lead in it) I doubt ifit's gold. It has three diamonds but with no openings at the back of the stones they are probably not real. It also has a blue stone forth belly. On the back is engraved D.M.099. Does anyone know what that means? Thanks for the help in identifying this piece.

Hey Mike,
That is one unique piece of jewelry! What are the dimensions? Does it have a karat stamp?
Did it make your heart skip a beat when you saw it in your scoop?

The only markings were the D.M.099 0n the back. I don't thing it's real. I feel it's costume jewelery unless someone knows different by the marking. As far as my heart jumping. Any piece of jewelery in the the scoop makes you crazy.
Love this hobby.

Have to figure out how to make the photos smaller. Thanks for the comment. Love any kind of jewelery in the scoop.

Forgot to mention. it's about 7/8 inches long and a little under a half inch wide.

Some foreign gold jewelry has odd markings.
A local jeweler I take some of my stuff to has a little pen-sized device which he can press against an object and determine if it's gold and what the approximate karat rating is. Maybe you can find a jeweler who could test it for you.
I googled the markings and I can't find anything to do with jewelry.
However I did find this link while searching for jewelry markings:
http://www.valentinejaipur.com/pendents.php
Their jewelry is marked with "DM" too but they don't seem to explain what it means.
I hope that thing is the real deal, it's just to cool to be costume jewelry.

The link you sent me to has some great looking jewelery on it WOW. I know a couple of jewelers and I'll ask them about that device for testing for gold. Either way it's great to see something shiny in the scoop (even at night time). Thanks for the compliment and I hope to see you post something even nicer in the future.

I tried to make the pictures smaller but it had to be that size to show the details. I like the way the bear is holding the ballons. It's great getting a compliment from someone that I think is an icon in our hobby. I would love to come down your way this summer and hunt together (please leave me some gold) <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">. I know I could learn alot from you. Thanks again and I hope you find plenty of yellow shiny stuff in your scoop.

I checked out the link again and I think the DM is for Diamonds and They also use TZ for Topaz and EM for emerald. But thanks anyway and I'll keep looking. Either way I like the piece anyway.

If you do find out all the details about the piece please follow up with a posting.
I'm really curious to know what you find out about it.
Steve.

whether it is gold or not, that is one great find, and i have to agree with diane that the pic is one of the best i've seen as well
could you tell us what camera you used and also info on lighting-background and so forth if relative??
also hope you get it checked out by a jeweller and it works out to be something really valuable
please keep us up to date
all the best dom

Dom,
The camera I use is a FinePix 3800 Digital Camera. 3.2 Mega Pixels, 6x Optical Zoom. To take the photo I put the camera on Macro (close-up) setting. Then believe it or not all I did was put the charm on my formica kitchen counter focus and take the photo. Nothing fancy. I hope it checks out as gold. Either way it's a nice piece.
How can you beat finding jewelry in your scoop?
Thanks again,
HH Mike

I have the exact same bear except the stomach is purple instead of blue i've been trying to find the exact same information.
