Coinmaster 5 Supreme

opus

New member
I bought a Whites Coinmaster 5 Supreme in 1976, depth was fantastic! I must admit from about 1985 to now it's mostly sat on a shelf, I bought fresh batteries and powered it up expecting the kind of depth I remember. It still works, but about half the depth! It has great sentimental value so it isn't going anywhere, even if I have to use it as a paper weight, but I'd rather be digging coins. I'd appreciate any advice.

I wouldn't think the performance of the machine had changed much. But perceived depth may be different now...More trash, masking, etc. And less deep coins out there to find!

I've got a 6DB hipmount we bought new for my wife YEARS ago, & I can't tell any difference in it today. Still, I'm gettin' ready to put it on the market...Need the closet space as we downsize.

Give it another try at a different location.

the cm-5 supreme is an awesome detector..... it's hyper sensative.... and can find rusty nail heads a foot down....the 4BDX coil that baby uses was also kinda unique...... if i understood what i was told correctly.... the newer whites machines are based on the cm-5's circuit....
when i've had an older detector that's sat a spell....i'll pop the knobs... and give all the shafts a small shot of deoxit.... put the knobs back.... and work em for a few minutes..... the oil in the capasitors can get sludgey after a 20 year sit.....i'll put a fresh set of bateries in..... kick the box on..... and let it sit til the batteries are dead..... belive it or not.... that can get an old detector movin again..... electronic devices of any kind don't seem to hold up sitting around.... would't cost you much to give it a whirl..... what's the worst that can happen.......

I have one of those Whites Coinmaster Supreme V detectors, is like brand new, and runs great. Just bought it recently, the fellow had sent it back to Whites who refurbished it, and it has a new Whites coil, not the older 4B coil, they just rewired the connector and it runs the Whites Series 3 coil, the one with the patent number on the coil. I have not used it out there at this time, as I am using so many other detectors.

They had created a special machine, for the loggers, I have its information sheet, it was a commercial machine with a large battery, it would find a small iron nail in the middle of a tree. From that commercial model, came the Supreme V.
