Coin$trike Question. ( Newbie )

onpoint

New member
I would like to know if and when I should have the foil, nickel, tabs and zinc active on my Coin$trike or not ?

Thanks Clinton :ukflag:

Clinton..I just saw this. I don't think it's a stupid question, but more of what are you hunting for . If you are just after silver, then I would say sure. But, if you do not make them active ( I do not have a Coinstrike, but I assume not active means you are notching these targets out), then you will not find much, if any gold jewelry.

Sometimes hunters cherry pick for silver coins and notch out all other targets if there is alot of trash. I am not sure if notching out the targets you indicated make the machine loose depth, but if it is like the CZ's you do not lose much depth when discriminating. But, the more posts I read on the forums, it seems that lots of detectors start losing depth when the discrimination goes up.

If I am not mistaken, the Coinstrike can ID in all metal...if I had one, that's what I would use most of the time unless there were tons of iron nails or iron bits around.

Thanks JC for your info on this subject,

I have just bought my first detector, a Coin$trike. I have not even picked up a metal detector until now ! I must admit I'm not to clued up on Detecting or the setting either, but we all have to

start somewhere don't we.

I have picked up a number of tips already from this forum I just need to get out and try them ( Tomorrow weather permitting )

Have a good day

Thanks also Bob I thought I was going mad when I had a number of views and not even a single reply...

Clinton,

That's the only way to learn any detector. Get out there and use it. Try the simplest tips first. I was thinking about getting a Coinstrike awhile back and read lots of into. One of the main things I learned is not to run the threshold high at first. It seems this machine is quite a different animal in terms of how sensitivity and threshold run.

I think somewhere on the forum a consensus was to run the machine at a 525 setting ( which I believe is sensitivity 5, threshold -25) as a starting setting. ( please someone correct me if I am wrong). There are lots of tips out there but don't get confused and try them all. Some of them are from experienced detectorists who know their machine, their hunting grounds and are trying to tweak their machine for the best results for a particular situation.

Also, I would not discriminate anything out at first. If I were you, I would dig all targets and learn what the machine is telling you. I think most of the pros and very good hunters out there learn what their machines are trying to tell them and when in doubt...DIG IT !

HAVE FUN

Can I ask what would happen if I was to have the threshold and sensitivity higher ? why are the settings 525 best to start with ?
