Not sure if this is a valid question ?

Lets say I wanted to detect a field where there was not much trash, I want to dig up everything so I can try to learn what the tones and numbers are telling me.

At what number will Discrimination reject gold on the C$ ?

Hi Clinton,

There's much more qualified folks here on the C$ then myself, but I recently was doing some testing with various gold objects (rings, lockets, chain, etc) and of varying gold karat ratings.

What I found is that they tended to read like nickels, pull-tabs, foil, etc. It's really all over the map, depending on what size, shape and karat rating it has. So if you in a area without much trash, I wouldn't notch anything, and dig everything that's a positive #. That's what I've been doing at least. No gold yet, maybe tomorrows the day :detecting:

I envy you, you have an awesome place to hunt, there's nothing like that old Roman town in the U.S.

I'd go so far as to accept iron from 50 to 95 along with accepting all notches. When you disc out most iron it can affect low conductors
near the very low end of the scale, and these same targets will only be recognized correctly to a certain depth, especially if they are small. Beyond this depth they will read iron. Experiment with a gold quarter stater, or even a farthing in the air. Then lay it on top of the ground to get some mineral effect and see what the distance is. And I highly recommend running with tracking on, and accumulate on-the numbers are more steady. The C$ is also a detector that likes to be swung a little faster than say a CZ. Also here's a trick on running at a higher sensitivity: if it chatters, simply run the threshold down into the negative until you don't hear it [learned this on the MXT.]:fisher::detecting:
