COIN SHOOTERS UNITE/use the U.S. dollar coin

We here in the U.S. do have a number of dollar coins.....yet how many have you found? I can recall several, but rarely....Other countries have $1 and $2 dollar coins and MDing their finds at the park, beach, and events can make a good payday.....Just think if you were finding $dollar coins like you do quarters!!! SO,we need to start a MDing promotion/movement to start distributing the dollar coin among the change losing public...get a roll of dollar coins from your bank next time your there, use them at the beach bars/concessions....at the ballparks, tips, your kids,...any place that they will be put back in the generous, forgetful, holes in pockets,
key digging,"what happened last night" hands of the public...We might just start paying for our detectors alot sooner!
Just a thought....Bob..HH

You know what that is a good idea!

But how well does these new dollar coins last laying on the ground?
Are they like the stink'in zinc'ons?

Unfortunately....... your govt. got this dollar coin thing all wrong!!!! Here in Canada the whole point of a dollar coin, is to use it instead of paper bills because it would last ten times longer than a paper bill. So when the one dollar coins came out, the one dollar bills were discontinued. (What's the point of having a dollar bill "and" a dollar coin?) It was fantastic for us detector users..........as well as workers in the service industry. What we learned from our experience, is that people were a lot more prone to tip using a coin, and tips increased as well, it was really a win /win situation. You should question your politicians on why this ridiculous, costly, duplication of effort is allowed to continue??????

The next time you visit your local bank, ask the tellers what they think of the idea of replacing dollar bills with coins. You will be met with a scowl and an absolute "NO". They despise dollar coins.

I think that's a good idea....to get dollar coins from the bank and use them when buying things. The more people who get used to seeing/using them the more people will use them. You're right about the fact that a coin lasts MUCH longer than paper money. The other day I saw this statistic as to how long they both last on TV. I think they said 30 years for a coin but only months (it was shocking how short of a time paper money lasts, just can't remember the figure) for paper money. It would be a big cost saving thing for the government if more people used dollar coins.

I'M IN!----I'm willing to fill my pockets with dollar coins & get rid of those nasty ole dollar bills in my billfold!------Coin hunters--RISE UP & do the right thing!! (start carryin dollar coins)--------If the general public would do it (use the dollar coins more)--wouldn't that be GREAT.------I've often thought how cool it would be to find dollar coins like we find quarters (kinda anyway). :)-----------Del

The first time I got a metal detector I went to a spot where a gambling tent had been set up for the local home coming carnival. People played cards and did the spinning wheel thing in that tent, etc. It had only been there for a week and I noted where the tent was before they removed it. First time out detecting and in the grass I was finding quarters and susan B anthony dollar coins all over the place! Didn't even have to dig. Just brushed the grass to the side to see the coins. That had my hooked on detecting. I forget how much money I ended up with in a short amount of time but it was very quick for the amount I found.

Throw them out..I'll look for em...LOL:rofl:

Truth is dollar coins just don't seem to catch on with we Americans....

If they made them out of silver again they sure would.Wishfull thinking I know.

Ready to put the plan in motion....got $20 dollars worth at the bank today....going MDing at the beach tomorrow morning...might just buy a breakfast burrito at the concession on the beach ...or maybe a rum-runner...and maybe I might just sacrifice a couple to the beach gods....

Quote:"A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step" I got 20 bucks worth..that's my first step...

More power to you. I think it's a great idea. It will get the public used to using dollar coins in your area.

I used to be a Cowboy Reenact. I always carried the dollar coins when I was in character and paid with everything I could with them. It was so much fun to be dressed like 1885 and clunk down a "gold" coin when I ordered a drink at the concession stand. Much more in character, I thought, to do that than fumble with my billfold and pull out a dollar bill. The cowboys always paid for their drinks with coins, (at least in the movies they did):bouncy:

What would really help is if they made the dollar coin so it was a different size. Banks hate them because they look too much like quarters without studying them. Of course this is from the same country where we keep making pennies and nickels that cost twice their value to make them. You guys might be on to something as far as getting them lost where we can find them and Canada is right too, if we stop making 1 dollar bills, we'd have to use coins.

I'd carry this idea a bit farther. Visiting Canada, which is just few hours north of us, my wife and I have gotten used to, and really like, the one and TWO dollar Canadian coins. Three "toonies" puts 6 dollars in your pocket and the weight and size is not objectionable and they are easy to identify versus other coins. It's my understanding that the one and two dollar coins have saved the Canadian government quit a bit over the use of paper bills and there's no reason it couldn't work here, but the production of paper bills would have to cease.
