This is a coin pattern that will allow high coins and low coins to sound off when they are next to iron. Iron does a funny things to readings as we have learned, it tends to want to pull the ID to the left while the coin wants to pull the ID back where it should be.
Curser (A) shows where the XS wants to pull the high coin ID towards iron, it will -as has been shown by Mike M. - move between the two points. So excepting everything in between would be a good idea, especially when you know iron is present. If you use a regular custom coin patter such as opening up the upper right corner (which is a great pattern that I use more often than not) you will absolutely miss many surface coins, silver, Indians, wheaties, ect. Why this happens is because of the iron object makes the XS sometimes want to hold the ID to the left, so around iron (which is everywhere) you take a chance because a nice old coin may not be oriented next to the iron in a way that DOES NOT allow it to be pulled back to the right side and the correct position.
Curser (B) shows where it will tend to bounce when a nickel is next to iron, the XS once again wants to ID the iron so the curser gets pulled back and forth. Again though, sometimes the Iron makes the curser stick to the left side, so if your not excepting that area on the screen then you will hear zero(0) tones.
This screen shows the area between the Iron/high coins and the Iron/low coins as open and excepting everything, this is because even though the Nickel will be pulled the left side and occasionally stick there it will also tend to be pulled to the upper left to where I show the Iron/high coin curser. So to be sure you not missing the low coins next to iron this area is open and excepting these readings.
Because I have observed the target trying to stick to the left side or to the actual correct ID, I have the area between rejected out (this is the area the low coins ass through as they bounce around), if a site is virtually clean then this rejection is not necessary.
Still, all screens have there place and should be adjusted to suit the site conditions, but this does illustrate another possible screen to use and why. I don't think any one taking the XS out for the first time should be messing with this, but it's something to think about. Also this post probably is needed but at least it may reinforce what's already been posted.

BTW, From the top of the screen moving down the first open area excepts (32)thru(22) in Digital. The second area excepts (7) thru (4) in Digital. Also the screens rejected left side would be the same as Iron Mask (-, and the script and threshold box should be a good reference.
