Coin/Relic

I have read that the T2 is beter for relic hunting then for coin hunting why is that?

I use the T2 for coins mostly, but I can see why they say it's a great relic machine.

First, the 13 Khz frequency is probably not as good as a lower frequency on deeper (mid to large size) coins, though here in Germany the old stuff is often small and dime sized. So, for me it's great on coins. The higher frequency hits great on the small stuff, once again, more for relic hunters. I think the difference here is not so much in frequency, though I've noticed most "coin" machines are in the 6 or 7 Khz range.

Second, I think the main reason though is the setup of the machine. It has all the modes to choose from which, to me, cater allot (or should I say equally) to a relic hunter. It has a very very good all metal mode which most coin hunters won't ever use imo. It has the 1, 1+ and 2+ mode which, though I do use for coins on occasion, are probably more for relic hunters. Perhaps the Db tone mode is good for relics also but I like using it for coins. So, that leaves us with the 3, 3b and 4 mode for coins.

Further it has the Fe304 meter, which though I like as a coin hunter, I bet this really benefits the relic hunters who hunt in lots of iron (which is true for me in Germany, so once again, great for me). I do use it often. Also, it has the sub zero discrimination which is great for really analyzing the soil. Don't know many coin hunters who like that, but the sport is getting a bit advanced...

Lastly and this is a small thing. It's really hot, very sensitive. This is more so a problem for coin hunters as we go to parks and places with power often overhead or nearby. Once again, for me not really an issue. Hopefully the frequency selection helps when hunting around others, though I haven't yet tried it... soon will though.

Oh, one more point, but I bet relic hunters like how the T2 breaks down small for backpacking into those sites. I think Bill L. mentioned that.

In closing I think the T2 is just as much a coin machine as a relic machine but traditionally coin machines were just that. The T2 comes along and offers a top notch relic and coin machine. Perhaps it's breaking a trend and that, more than anything else, makes it difficult for people to see what a good coin machine it is. Very much all my opinion. I'm sure there are better "technical" reasons out there.

Did I forget anything?

I think the T2 is great on coins but I'm interested to see what the new Fisher will be like. Perhaps a T2 meant for coins?
