Coin Purse Found With Big Silver

There is a house next door that is being repaired from a burst pipe and water damage. In the driveway is one of the big containers for the damaged wood, drywall, etc. Yesterday morning around 6AM as I was leaving to go MD, I noticed a couple of people dumping some things by the container. When they saw me they left in a hurry. One of the things was a small table and I went to check it out but it was burned as well as the others things they had dumped. One of the things I notice was a charred purse. I opened it but it was empty, until I saw a zipper inside. When I unzipped it that's when I saw the coin purse. I knew something was inside the coin purse because of the weight. I went back inside the house to open it, thinking all the time "Please let it be gold coins. Please let it be gold coins", but no gold coins. However this is what I found:

1 - 1883 Morgan
1 - 1922 Peace
1 - 1907 Barber Half
1 - 1939D Half
1 - 1944S Half
1 - 1945S Half
1 - 1913 Type I Buffalo
1 - 1935D Buffalo
1 - 1936D Buffalo
1 - 1937D Buffalo

Those folks weren't only lazy, they were stupid. You should put a thank you note in the local paper.

Nice job!!!!!

ill have to metal detect long and hard to beat the easy find:detecting:

Funny you said something about the lottery, your not going to believe this but I only missed it by 5 numbers. Dang, I was close!

No, Monte, all the coins are just plain common coins. This is the reason I didn't show the Reverse of the coins, nothing special. It appears like the Morgan was carried by someone in their pants pocket for years to be worn like this. I have seen one that a man carried for years and you could barely tell it was a Morgan it was so worn. These coins seemed to have been important to someone at one time. Oh, one more thing on the 1939 Half the small circle in front of her leg is actually a very tiny hole that goes all the way through. It's so small that a small pin can barely be inserted. Before I opened the coin purse, I figured it would be just modern day pennies, nickels and dimes. The coin purse was one of the type that was soft and flexible, oval shape and had an opening down the middle, the type that you pressed both ends and the center would open. This thing fell apart in my hands when I tried to open it. If you look at the 1937 Buffalo you can see a stain where this nickel was stuck to the coin purse.

Imagine the odds... that has to be a once in a lifetime occurrence. Very cool.

Silver coins got worn fast in circulation, so don't rule out the wear you see. It is most likely the result of common circulation. Im betting the purse came from granny or some auntie, originally. Too bad you cannot find out.

I'll bet you never do that with your metal detector :)

No bet because your probably right. What I should have done as soon as seeing the coin purse was go and get my metal detector and run the coil over the purse then I could really say, "Look what I found with my metal detector" (LOL) but that would be cheating and not the truth.

Who needs a detector
