Coin pattern and erratic signals

treebeard

New member
Hello everybody,

I have a piece of question on the Minelab's coin pattern : on the left of the screen, there are some blanks which give to me, in trashes areas, some strange signals (an horrible "bump"); in the same time, the cursor is going on the extrem left of the screen, where the blank is. My question is: did your etrac acting the same way with you guys?

I ask you that because sometimes, there is a lot of signals everywhere and it makes me crazy, I don't know, at this time, on which sound I have to pay attention...

Do you think it's a good idea to edit this coin pattern by masking all the left side of the screen (nulling the conductivity at about Co=5) and then re-edit this pattern by accepting some good items that could have been rejected by the discrimination?

I'm really not sure to be clear, and my english is not helping to understand my text, hoping you'll understand,

Thx for your answers.

Regards.

Edit the top right line so you can hit big silver. When you noise cancel make sure there are NO targets under your coil. I check the area using the quick mask screen ( mine is open ) before noise canceling. Multi-Tones sounds like a bird in a blender sometimes but once you get it you will be crazy like me. Slow down if you are in a trashy area and let the E-Trac work. HH :minelab:

Thx for your answer,

I tried a new coil today, and the signal keep going on the bottom left of the screen (even in a clean area), so I decided to notch the left side at about 3.... in this kind of pattern I've didn't eard any bad signals, maybe the sensivity was to high, I didn't noticed that in the first time (about 3 months) i used my ET... well I hope it's not a failure in the control box... but it works with this kind of discrimination...

Regards

What is your sensitivity?? what ground condition is where you detect? materialized or not? what is your new coil? does etrac make the same problems in the air? any other person or club more experienced in metal detecting than you? To me your story looks suspicious, I think you are doing something wrong.

Hi,

I should have made a little introduction of myself, it's gonna be brief :

I metal detect for about 15 years old now, with my Minelab Musketeer XS pro (I also hada Bounty hunter and a Tesoro). I can say that today, I know every tones of my XS pro, but since I bought the ET, it's a bit more difficult for me to hunt. Today, I decided to go in a wood where I know that there is a few trash on the soil, except some hunting ammos left in the nature. The soil was pretty wet ans calcareous, I made a noise cancel at my arrival on site, then I began to swing the detector, and the first erractic signals appeared. I used a new coil this day which is the double D sold with the ET. I decided today to notch the left part of the screen because the cursor tended to go systematically on the left edge with a grave sound, so itwas difficullt for me to define which sound was a good one or a bad one. When i first used my ET (3 months ago), it was with this pattern and I can't remember that this troubles appeared, it seems to be something new according to me... but I admit that with the left edge notched, the ET works better and only generate a few of bad (or iffy) signals.

I forgot to talk about sensitivity, I was in auto mode +3, so I decided to low the sensitivity level in A, but it was the same, I had to put a very low sensitivity (with the factory's coin pattern) to stabilize the ET.

Thx for the interest.

if you use Auto sensitivity something wrong, but how your etrac behaves in the air on targets? does it make erratic signals except targets?

Does it do it everywhere or us certain places? I am not sure I would take out anything till you knew what was causing it.

Hi,

I've just had a few moments to hunt this past week, but I went in some place today, with my new pattern (Minelab coin pattern edited), just two acceptations spots in the left bottom of the screen (to accept some old gaulish coins), and I noticed that in this area, a lot of targets pointed on these only two open spots... I actually think that the soil is more trashy than I thought when I used my old Musketeer. In fact, we have, in france in general, a lot of cobber residuals from hunting bullets that sounds like some good coins. I just think now that the ETRAC is most sensitive than my older detector.

Just one more thing, the ET made sounds in the air with my first coil but not anymore with the new coil.

Txh.

I have to say Thank you to everybody,

I have a gift for you guys, my last target : a gaulish coin, silver and about 5 millimeters from my nearest city : Marseille.

Picture taken with my cell phone, not very awsome quality... sorry

Thx again!
