I was CW hunting today with a bud of mine, and got a chance to look at his relic collection. Among his items was a very unusual coin with seated liberty and the date 1866 on one side, and the other had been sanded smooth at one time, and has " Nathan B. Forrest Grand Wizard" engraved around the rim, and and "K. K. K." in larger type in the center. It also has been notched like it was meant to be worn. Has anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this?? This post was not meant to offend anyone, we just want to know its origin if anyone knows. He got the coin in Hernando Mississippi. BTW all I found today was a bunch of "tractor Iron", my first Indian!! ( 1904 ) a wheat ( 1948 ), and a 1945P Nickel. HH Joe

Yes, I have seen them at the Flea Market. An authentic piece of that type would be very valuable, but it is similar to the Dorsey Pender Confederate ID coin (Fake). Have him bring it to Nashville this weekend. Experts in the field can help him solve the mystery. These type fakes are always on larger seated liberty coins. If he dug it, someone salted it (buried in order to fool someone or play a joke on them). Steve Sylvia (North/South Trader magazine) ran an article on these forgery's. By the way; the Klan was an extremely secret organization. No one would have carried around a KKK coin with their name on it. You offend no one here. We're interested in history, or I should say the true history of ours and others nations, not being a part of the politically correct crowd.

hey joe, it's an interesting coin for sure. i don't know if it's the real thing, but it's still neat. david from dixie metal detectors said it best - have it checked out by the experts. you've offended noone - we really are more interested in real history - the way it really was. hh,

Thank you. He did not dig it but picked it up at a flea market for around $30.00.

Glad I didnt ruffle any feathers. Weather permitting we will be trying to find a skirmish site Saturday. Wish us luck... HH Joe

I don't think it's meant to be something NBF owned, but rather a memento with NBF's name engraved on it with his Klan title. But if it is a forgery, it's a moot point anyhow.
