Coin Metamorphosis Small Scale

I went to the coin shop wile my clothes were drying down the street and explained to my friend what I was going to do with my MD pennies. He said he would look up the price of silver and sell me some 90 percent coins at 12/31/07 prices. How much more could I ask for? So we settled on 2 Kennedy Halves, 1 Quarter, and 1 dime all 1964. The dime is actually 1964D. So that's what I did with the 1514 pennies I dug in 2007 at a silver price of $14.74. He charged me tax too, FYI. Should force me to dig more penny signals anyway.

Next year I'll do 1963 then 1962 etc. When I have been detecting as long as Bill, I'll be in trouble!

Trash to Treasure, good on you.

Nice coins. I have a few of those. What do they charge for a silver half now. I remember the mobs at the coin shops back in the eighties when the Hunt brothers drove the price of silver up to $50 an ounce. People were unloading everything made of silver including tons of fine old coins that would be melted down.

I remember selling 90% silver for 22x face value in the early 80's as well. More for silver dollars. I know lots of good coins were melted. I keep all that I find now, there will end up being many of the sold called common dates that turn out to be not so common because of that melt. Good trade for the pennies. One of the shops near here sells wheats for $8.00 a pound. I wonder if the melt value of copper memorial cents isn't worth more that just a penny with copper prices so high. It might be better to sell them by the pound also.
