Coin identification

Herb Jones

New member
Aside from the internet, is their a small guide book of sorts that I could have in the field with me, that would help in identifying coins? Not an encyclopedia, something small, that I can check out when I take a break. Does anyone know of anything that they would recommend?

Herb go to a coin store. I have seen a few publications. I always liked the fairly small red book. It shows pictures and prices ...........

Plus I would think some of our sponsors have some sort of book for Id..

Barnes and Noble carry the industry standard "The Red Book" but there a few soft magazines also there that publish some very accurate estimates-not as much info as RB but much cheaper-compare for yourself. Lots of luck-John-

I Don't Have a coin shop Locally
Or Anywhere Even Remotely close... I hadn't thought of a
Magazine devoted To
Coins... I'll have to check that out

Thanks

The "Red Book" is my go to when looking for coin id and values. Fairly small so as to keep it in the car if needed.

Your public library may have one. If they're in the reference department you might not be able to check them out but they would help until you can buy one. Some of the detector dealers may have them for sale. The first ones I got came with a detector I bought.

I went on line and found the 2017 official USA coin book( red book) for 10.84$ at target. I'm sure there are a lot more places on line to order from, that's just the first one that popped up.

I got the little red book. Thank you all.
