A friend sent me this picture. Anybody have any idea of what kind of coin this is. He said it's about the size of a quarter and appears to be brass.

My book only goes back to 1900. If it is a coin, it could be older than 1900. Could also be a token of some sort. Either way, it appears to be East Indian in nature.

Looks like a temple token from India depicting Hanuman, the Hindu monkey god.
 
Looks like Devavnagri numerals to me. But I can't find anything more about this Devavnagri other than that listed in my 1994 Krause catalogue. The year 1740, a token by my thoughts too.
